Hopefield told me you guys had been following our progress after the ride. Was great to read this thread just now - thanks for supporting the home team of riders.

I think it's fair to say we all faced plenty of challenges on the way around - and as 'Dale said, in the end it became as much a mental battle as a physical one. For me, I was cruising up to the 1,000km mark and between there and the next control the wheels came off in a big way. Developed a bad case of Shermer's neck, which nearly ended my ride. The rest of that day was tough, and it didn't get any easier when I eventually got to a bed around midnight, and immediately got sick and had the medic looking over me half the night. I started out on the last day more than an hour behind the clock, but with enough time to get to the end if I kept it steady around 20Km/h. Used all of that time so as not to over stress the body, and finished with about an hour and a half to spare.

Toughest thing I've ever done - and a heck of an adventure. Would recommend it to anyone who loves cycling and seeing just how deep they can dig. The scenery was breathatking through the North of England and Scotland too.
