reteid Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 i have a giant tcr hybrid and would like to sit a little bit more upright while on the hoods or in the drops.i have loosened the top cap and the stem bolts and lifted the stem a bit higher.there is space for some spacers.the top cap still fastens.my question is how do i know how high i can take the stem up? all answers will be welcome.

Audible Anarchy Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 you should be able to lift it as high as the length of your forks steerer tube will allow without any issues. you could also try a stem with a higher rise angle. Also try dropping your seat or using a shorter stem.

Cat2forLife Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 As mentioned above, about as many as your steering tube is long. If it is 100mm long, your stem and headset are 80mm you can fit 4 5mm spacers. But try not to go to high with spacers, as it could cause some handling issues. In my opinion, have about 30mm of spacers under the stem. If that's still not high enough, flip the stem over. If it's still not high enough, look for a stem with a steeper angle. reteid 1
