I got my first pair of 5.10's late last year, The Freeride VXi's. Had another good look at the souls last night and it seems as if one of my pedal pins are going to wear right through the soul any day now! Feels like 3-5mm of soul left in that particular spot

Must be your riding style  :P

I've had mine for longer than that, I ride 4+ times a week, and mine are holding out well.

Is it the edge pins or centre pins wearing through?

All the pins seem to have had a little nibble at the shoe but the one pin (rear inside pin) it digging a hole straight through the sole!

My Red Barons (both pairs) wore through on the outside from these guys...

But that was after a year of use on each pair..

I think the VXi's are less likely to repeat this as they do not have the circular grip pattern over these pins. The pins (after time) started tearing at the circles to wear a hole through.

But I guess the position of the wear is also just an indication of where one puts weight on their feet.

I have an unused pair of the 5.10 Greg Minnaar size 8 (UK) I think. Will confirm size (either 7 or 8) tonight. Selling for R400

Sent you a PM RossW

might be warranted to shorten the pins?

I also have the Saints, but mine are currently "fullly extended" with the washers removed.

I ride the saints with extended pins. They are not that grippy with shortened pins, and I wouldn't recommend rough riding with the shortened pins.

Agree with Brian Fantana, tried using the pedals with the washers in and it was BAD!

It is on the "smooth" part of the sole where the pin it digging away at the rubber.

I will post a picture this evening.

I've been on Impact Low's for 7 months and I can vouch for the quality and comfort of the shoes.

I am however moving back to clipless because lately I've been experiencing serious issues with a) my feet getting blown off on very rough terrain and b) I lose some speed on fast trails because I am often slacking off to readjust my feet and with 5.10's that's sometimes easier said than done.

Not knocking the shoes or flat pedals. I love them and I will still keep them for those sessions at G-spot or Cederberg boulderfests where putting a foot out instantly is recommended by 9/10 GP's.

Dam thats "pitting" badly for 3 month old shoes designed for the job !! You leave them out in the sun at all or any xtra elements that could of added to the deterioration... maybe you got lead legs

I know. What I was saying is that if it was on a model like the freeriders it would possibly be worse as there is less material, and the pins could possibly catch and rip the circular patterned tread.

But again... ultimately... it must be something about the pedals/pins, your stance, or your foot movement while riding, because mine are fine
