I actually remembered some of the quotes word for word as soon as they started talking, I had taped that off the TV and watched it over and over.....

MTB looked a lot more interesting back then......

Greg Miller kicking ass both days and wearing a black skin suite to look like John Tomac.....awesome.....

Any of the current downhill dudes prepared to do DH with bar ends and saddle bag?

Totally - can even organise an old GT RTS 2 to ride - but there is no way im gonna hit the jumps we have on the new tracks on that bike with those setups

Out of interest sake Id be keen to know what those bikes weighed back then if we assume an average weight of our bikes is 11kg.

Those bar ends are horrible, almost as bad as an 80's haircut on a lady walking around with her body beat socks at hyperama

I raced the nationals in 1997 on a full susser PRODUX (for those that remember it) and it weighed in at about 15-16kg. It was one of the few full sussers available - especially in my price range - paid R5k for the bike

in 1998 I raced a mountain cycle (HT) with state of the art Manitou TPC front forks. it weighed in at 14kg. lightest I could get it on my budget

Basic spec was:

MC Frame

Manitou fork

flite titanium saddle

mavic 317 rims with xt hubs.

xt deraillers and gripshift

lx crank

IRC tyres

LX V brakes
