Hi All,

This isn't a question about pricing et al, but as a newbie is the Silverback Vida 1 too much bike, or should I go cheaper?

I can get one, converted to tubeless (RUBENA SCYLLA V96), with bottle cages for R14675 excl.

Regards

Dave

Then buy it !

Hi &l thanks for the replies.

My budget is up to R20K, but I need everything as I've got nothing.... I was very keen on the Storm which I saw at Cyclelab. but I need a helmet, gloves, kit, and spares. hence the decision to go Vida 1 and use the balance for other kit!

Spend money on .A decent bike AKA storm1 .Good shoes !!!!,beware of carbon soles for a newbie.Rather go nylon ,Full finger thin gloves ,not too much padding .Comfortable helmet ,Rudy is great .First ascent make good gear to start of .Use all of it until worn out ,buy better stuff !

His budget is 20k not 200k.

Starting out I would say get what you feel is comfortable, shop around get an idea of what is our there when it comes to kit. Ask your buddies what they using and check with your bike shop what they recommend.

He was referring to when you said get a Storm which retails for about 20-25k and then you still need to add all the other items which would total way above 20k.

Yes, that is what he said and then later said that his budget was 20k max.

@Dorpie saying "His budget is 20k not 200k" was in reference to your recommendations of the Storm, Rudy gear etc. which would have come in way over budget.

He said the Vida was 15k excl, which would mean that it would be 16.8k and leave a max of 3.2 for gear. Not too much for shoes, helmet, gloves and bibs/baggies. Not much but doable...

Thanks all.

Yip, First Accent gear is not too expensive. You should be able to get bib and shirt for just under 1K. Mountainbike shoes R600-R700 for a good entry level pair. I have a pair of Olympics and work beautifully both mtb and road. And a good (entry) Specialized helmet and gloves will bring you under R2.5k. as a start..... not bad hey! Leaving R700 for spares and extras...
