Wheel flex

There are too many things that can 'flex'

It can be the spokes. And it probably has a lot to do with the rim

BUT check out other stuff as well.

  • The tire: pump it harder. And get one with stronger sidewalls.
  • A rim with a wider profile will reduce 'tire flex'
  • A thing that happened to my stage race partner this year was that the axle(qr) 'ate' into the slot to such extent that he got a replacement frame.
  • On a steel frame: Check out the length of the stub of the axle that goes into the slot at the back. I have seen axles that are juuust to long for the width of the slot plate. When you tighten the qr, it feels tight, but the qr does not grip the plates properly. See if it helps to remove the springs from the qr.
  • And if you have fancy titanium aluminium qr's, get STEEL units.
