The next winner of a 32GI hamper is Sidekick Racer with the following tip:

"Tip - keep some extra insallation tape taped around your seat-post.

If you puncture more than once or don't have a tube on you, you can wrap this around the hole of the tube and finnish the bike leg with it.

Holds as good as any patch in my experience :)

Comes in as a great make-shift puncture repair kit"

or get a new tube from the nuetral service vehicle

In shorter distance races such as Sprint or Olympic Distance, break two elastic bands and tie them around the top tube of your bike, then place your energy gels underneath the elastic bands so they are easily reachable during the bike segment. Same idea with your Sunglasses which during the rush of transition can easily get forgotten, dropped or trodden on! Place the arms of the sunglasses underneath the bands to hold them securely, then you can wait until you have got yourself into a comfortable position on the bike segment before putting them on

Do a walk thru of Transition as if you were racing, so walk as if you come out of the swim to your bike. Then walk the return leg from the bike to your transition area. That way you will know the route to your gear and not get confused about the location of your gear.

I also thought my TIPS where much better

haha so did I - I personally would not use tape to repair a puncture ( a self adhesive patch works wonders as well)

Most important - EL does not have enough restuarants for all compeditors/family ect. So either book or get there early else you will wait 3 hrs for a really bad meal.

I know its specific to IM70.3

So - to add on from this tip....

Often you hear stories of peoples seat posts slipping or they hit a bump and it dropped...

Wrap said installation tape around the base of your seatpost, flush with the clamp. If you do a few loops this often takes the pressure off the clamp when you hit a bump and will prevent your seat post from slipping. Often seen it is a little pressed at bottom but gone no further.

Another slipping/creaking seatpost fix.

If you are doing your final checks on your bike (before leaving for the race) and you find you have a slipping/creaking seatpost and don't have any carbon paste to sort it out, use toothpaste. After a super-clean of my bike my seatpost caused some creaking and I found this tip online (since most of us do not have carbon paste). Use the old school type toothpaste (not the gel or those with granuals). My spotfix is holding up for months now...

Tip: Make a triathlon gear checklist

When you pack your gear for the race, use the list, this way you wont forget anything especially with the event happening at the Vaal Dam.

Tip: Pack a towel in to your bag to lay your gear out on in the transition zone, this way you can clearly find your bike and gear and grass/dirt does not go everywhere.

Tip: People are most scared of the swim. There are lots of open water swim events that happen all year round. The distances at these swim events also vary from 600 metres to 10 km's. Enter some of these events to get used to swimming in open water and build up the distance.
