Not so sure about this. Certain riders have been known to take it easy in the World Cup series (avoid injury, fatigue etc etc) to ensure they have a good crack at the Champ title... I could name a few that I suspect are doing just that this year . Going to result in an epic World Champs battle.

I hear you....I have heard Greg saying this year they he is focusing on worlds...but I have also heard him say that a world cup win is more coveted....as I said the media exposure of world's is a big plus

Yeah, he's too eratic. He peiced together one brilliant run in one race. the rest of the time he's either hurting himself, or riding so loose that he loses the "fast" part.

guys like GM are super consistent. Others like Hill and Gwin have had their times where they rode a cut above the rest

Then there are youngsters like Loic Bruni who won the World Cup and World Champs last year (Juniors) and no one could come close.

I expect great things form Bruni in a few years

But what a run little Hart had! Yeah, I get ya. Being consistent at that level isn't being careful. Those boys still rip!

What would you rather have hanging in your bar 20 years from now?

A World Cup winners jersey or the rainbows?

I guess the fact that sitting in Greg's shop is a certain Honda and shirt from 2003 and a certain Santa Cruz and shirt from 2012....that kind of answers that question........no sign of any of the world cup shirts

The analogy of a football team winning the Premiership vs the Champions League is pretty apt.

When Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005 there was a huge amount of luck involved. Two or Three players of that team were really crap and if it wasn't for a Steven Gerrard goal against Galatasary in the dying moments of the league stage, Liverpool wouldn't have made it through to the knock-out stage and eventually go one and beat AC Milan.

Chelsea that year won the Premiership by a huge 12 points from second placed team Arsenal with Liverpool a massive 37 points behind Chelsea in 5th place. Who was the better team that year? Undoubtedly Chelsea. Why? Pure consistency throughout a 10 month football season.

So is the World Cup vs World Champs debate.

Without taking anything away from the World Champ who has a brilliant ride on the day where everything runs smooth and like clockwork, the World Cup winner is in my opinion a more complete rider. He (or she) is able to adapt not only to a single track but to multiple tracks and show the level of consistency that is required to ultimately be best in the World for that year.

That's why a guy like Greg Minnaar is truly a great of the "game". Someone who is a multiple winner in both formats!!

It's a Haro/Intense M1 isn't it?

This was one of the things the creators of the Enduro World Series wanted to get away from. Their "world enduro champion" is the winner of the series. Which makes more sense I think.

Now you got me thinking..he switched to Honda in 2003....but he may have won the world champs on the Haro...the honda is in the shop though.....maybe it is from his 2005 World cup......can someone confirm?

Where is GM's shop in relation to the VA at Cascades?

the one shop is in town and the new shop is on the left ...just before the traffic lights at cascades - blue signs

Yoh! I think he won worlds on the Haro/Intense in 2003. And rode Honda from 2004. Won the world cup in 2005 for Honda. I think he won the world cup series in 2001 for Orange Global and I know he's taken a world cup 2008? and world champs for Santa Cruz but don't quote me.

Was there in 2003, pretty sure he was not on a Honda at 2003 Lugano world champs

one resurfaced on ebay a few years ago. I assume Honda would have knocked on the door and asked for their bike back.
