Hi,

I'm using the Strava app on my iPhone & loving it. I use the app as I don't have a Garmin GPS bike computer.

Does anyone know if it is heavy on data usage or how does it work?

Thanks,

It Uses VERY little data (a few KB per hour).

Turning off your data connections will make it much less accurate as Strava can use "AGPS" (the A is for assisted).

AGPS "assists" the GPS in the phone with cellphone tower tri-angulation to get a more accurate fix on your location.

The GPS units in phones on their own are quite good these days, but without using AGPS Strava could still give you some pretty bad segment data.

Yep, very bad for them KOM hero/hunters.

Some guys tend to take that very seriously.

Saw a lot of threads about it here on the HUB recently causing some heated debate, though I think this thread is luckily a more technical orientated one. :)
