Hey,

So I can get a good dela on a Commencal Absolut SX and I'm really tempted, the problem is that the bike is a S/M sizing while I fall into their L category just as I'm at 184cm. Its a "play" bike so I would have a short stem on it.

I see the size difference is mainly on the top tube but does not seem significant given the differences in top tubes I have encountered before.

Do you think I could go with the smaller frame? It is at a seriously good price so really tempted.

Based on the figures above, go for it, the 20mm shorter top tube should not make to much of a difference if you are going to use it for a play bike. It is slopestyle geometry anyway so it is going to be pretty compact even in the larger size.

If you get technical like this over a "play bike", do not buy it, stick with serious bikes.

Bikes like these are best bought as small as possible.. to facilitate the "playing" without hitting your crotch.

I want it small and chuckable for sure but also though I would be a bit careful as its coming from a mate in the UK, so when it gets here it is here to stay.

Size will suit you, Im 1.82m and ride a small as my enduro bike, easy to chuck around. But do you want a jump type play bike or an all day play bike, which you can ride all day long?

The SX is a very Park/slopetyle orientated bike, thus not the lightest or pedal efficient for day trips.

I was also looking at Commencal for a play bike. I'm 1.84 so borderline between the Short and Long sizing. The local agent said Id be fine on the Short.

However I prefer my bikes long and low. At 1.84 maybe look at the Long. 570mm is already a short top tube.

its a jump bike! i.e. an oversized bmx with bigass wheels..... do not get technical! if you can get one for cheap, Do it!

I find that peddling efficiency, reach and all that jazz are completely irrelevant when playing on your jump bike because you are standing all the time anyway. I think the only real difference between a long and a short is the likelihood of your ass landing on the back tyre when landing hard. (more likely on a short)

If anything. the short should be easier to flick around and have fun on.
