I guess you're looking for a site that you can update with entries and blogs along the way? Face book and twitter work well as they are easy to update, you can post a variety of media (photos, videos etc) without having to log in to you own site, create posts, add images and galleries. Plus they can usually be accessed on a half decent smart phone. Wordpress is a very powerful platform and coding structure that creates sites. It started as a simple blogging platform but is now alot more. It's got pluses and there are alot of free sites out there. I guess it comes down to what you want to achieve with the site, and what your needs are.
