Howsit Hubbers

I've got my 2013 vida 1 for 7months now and I feel its time to upgrade.

My first though was to use the bike as a donor bike and get a chinarello. The vida1 has got good spec, Reba(thru axle), SLX crank, shifters and FD. XT rear with deore brakes. SLX hubs with crest rims.

It'll take some saving up before I'll be able to do the frame that's why I thought of upgrading piece by piece in the following order

XT shadow + RD

Hope or Superstar hubs

XT shifters

What do you guys think?

One more thing, how can I increase my stopping power? I got the Shimano rep @ my LBS and he said that I cannot use ICE-TEC rotors with Deore brakes and that the ICE-TEC pads will not fit in the Deore calliper. I've got these on the bike currently with a 180mm front rotor and 160mm rear with resin pads.

Can I use the ICE-TEC rotors with my current setup? which pads should I use in conjunction with these callipers if they'll work?

Have a great evening

He is talking ***, you can use ice tech rotors with any breaks but the advantages will not be there, ok they will but only very little, the heat dissipating properties will be completely lost in S.A.for just about any kind of riding you will be doing. If you want more stopping power get bigger rotors or Change to better breaks. The ice tech system only helps with heat dissipation and doesn't translate to direct stopping power but rather prolonged stopping power without boiling break fluid. Well not in any way you or any other weekend warrior will be able to tell. The real power comes from the improved modulation and breaking systems technology rather than the ice tech.

Ok puzza Thursday advice done.

That agent is definitely talking ***. You just need the correct spacer and the brakes will go over the rotor.

Personally, I would go with the XT Shadow+ derailleur. It is such a nice upgrade. Constant chain tension, no chain slap and prevents chain drop. Also useful if you're considering a 1x10 conversion at some point. You will hardly notice the difference between SLX and XT shifters.

+1 on the RD

Only path up on the shifters is XTR, XT not a huge diff over SLX

But SLX brakes on the other hand , those will be a value for money upgrade.

Would keep the same rotors though.

Probably the best upgrade after those 2 is just focusing on working your leg muscles as hard as possible!!

Oh wait and nice wheels with Hope hubs is a very decent upgrade, I'd look for a set of 2hnd ones in thehub and just sell the old ones complete, probably be more economical than rebuilding what you have.

Or rebuild them yourself... That way you learn a valuable skill and save some sweet moola with uncle Rico.....

Agree on the brakes scenario though.... Best up grade you could make.

You'll notice a difference with the shadow+ rear derailleur, but the other upgrades you're thinking of will be a waste of money. Either start saving for a frame upgrade, or put the money into some nice bike clothing, some bike tools so that you can service the thing yourself, bike DVDs for inspiration, etc. Those will add more value to your cycling enjoyment.
