Why not? I swim there every year - never had any issues - aside from rescuing many from the river mouth - for failure to pay attention to the tide mostly... alternately inability to swim completely....

Best swim training ever as a schoolboy - get out of bed, walk across the road, dive off jetty - swim against the tide for an hour, shower and off to school...

We used to ski at the North End lake too from time to time... Check with SABCO what the water quality is like - I am sure they still test it regularly.

If you close to the river mouth I am sure it is fine. They have had to move the Redhouse river mile to Sundays now because Swartkops has become so polluted. I still paddle on the river tho and swam in the mouth the other day.

North End is polluted again. They cleaned it up for WC in 2010 but since is dirty again. However we still paddle time trials every tuesday night there and hope to not swim
