Stripped disc caliper

So before I commit myself to a lost cause is it possible to have a stripped thread in this area of a brake caliper repaired? I have heard things like 'heli-coils' and 'sleeves' mentioned in passing but no definite yes or no.

Anyone know if it can be done? Where in the Centurion area perhaps? Any idea how much?

Thanks

By the looks of that, that's a M6 thread, common size, same as stem bolts etc.

I could recommend two fixes here, depending what the area looks like that you need to screw it to.

1) Thread it out to an M8 hole and get the proper size bolt. I've got a threading kit but live nowhere near you.

2) M6 = a "10" nut. Just put the bolt through the stripped hole and screw it into a 10 nut behind the hole, you might need a longer bolt though, luckily they are readily available.

No. 2 might work best...

This is UBER last resort if nothing else works. One nicely tightened bolt will hold the caliper nicely in place. Then, strap a decent size zip/cable tie through the hole and TIGHTEN IT big time. I am sure it won't go anywhere.

Go bigger like Azionic said.  M8.

Or the Heli coil will work as well.

That is how they repair alu manufolds when its stripped.

Good luck!

Ben is the thread totally stripped. Sometimes a tap wil "recut" the thread making it possible to set your bolt again. Otherwise a helicoil should do the trick. I am a little worried about the amount of "flesh" you have to work with there. The expert who installs the helicoil will be able to tell.
