Ollie I used to struggle with exactly this and I really don't know the science behing increasing core strength. All I did was head out to the mountains every weekend and cycle easy. Within 3 months I think I improved by 110% and held onto the bunches with no problem.

Long Slow Distance is what some people seem to swear by. I swear by climbing and climbing some more - nothing like a good mountain to get the legs stronger.

EmbarrassedFrom experience I reckon that doing core excercises are one of the best ways to increase your riding. My balance and breathing have greatly improved as has my overall endurance, all of which help on those long grueling climbs. I also find that a bit of running, twice a week, helps. It just gets that natural spring back into your legs.

I do 250 crunches every (well nearly every) morning as well as pushups. I also do full core workout 3 to 4 times a week, PM for it of you are interested.

Okay maybe an explanation, crunches and pushups take 20 mins every moring. I run on a Tuesday and Thursday at 4:30 for 30 mins and then hit the bike till 7:30 (ish). Shower and eat. Then head down to Varsity. I do full core at round about 8 pm which takes 45 mins.

I'm looking for some advice on strengthening my core.  Anyone have suggestions or a program one might follow?

CYCLE MORE and your core will automatically become stronger!!!! The best thing for cycling is cycling.
