I want to upgrade my mtb pedals. Got basic Shimano 540's at the moment.

My options are Look S Track or Shimano XT. Can't find any comparisons so far so anyone with experience on these pedals please give me your comments.

My 2c...going from 540's to XT's is just cosmetic...ie a little XT badge and some carved scoop thing on the side. So i would stay with the 540's you have cause they are flippen bulletproof.

Why do you want to upgrade

Save weight or

To look hot / pimp / trick or

Both

I upgraded from the 540's to the Look's,

I couldn't be happier.

They are fantastic pedals and just feel solid once clipped in.

Agree with Rouxtjie that an upgrade to the XT's is just cosmetic.

I did this upgrade and can truelly say its fantastic. I like the strong clipped in feel of the Looks, and the weight saving, to create more float just add a thicker spacer. Great pedals

To save weight I just need to eat less!

I'm basically looking for better, longer lasting pedal and a nice looking pedal isn't such a bad thing!

My current pedals are actually 520's that have taken a hammering in the last 8 months but still going strong.

In terms of longer lasting, I am afraid shimano pedals are really as good as it gets...they are bulletproof, adjustable but not light and not the best looking....I personally have spd's because I hate maintenance whore components. I have heard good things about the s-tracks and are much better looking things, ito maintenance I have no clue.

If it was my money, I would get 540's...like I said, they are basically xt's without the badge and buy your wife something nice with the change....happy wife, happy life

I was looking for XT pedals for my bike which I bought last year. CWC had the best price but were out of stock, there XTR pedals were only a little bit more expensive than XT at most other shops so I splashed out and bought some. I had the Cheap shimano ones on my last bike and these feel very different. I'm much more locked in and I have a much more direct feel to unclipping. There are no rubbery discs that distort with time and from what I have heard from others is they last very well. I haven't tried others so I cant compare but mine are great.
