ANT+ Confusion

Paul Ruinaard

Recommended Posts

Okay - so I have a Suunto Ambit and a Garmin 800. So now I want to use one HR strap for both. Both say they are ANT+ compatible but they don't seem to be able to see each others strap.

Am i missing something?

is there possibly a third party strap that both will recognise?

Anyone else solved this problem?

I'm assuming you've tried pairing them properly with the garmin...?

It should work. I use a Cycleops Powercal band with my 800 and they paired perfectly.

how do you do the pairing - looked at the setup but cant see an option.

Is there an external third party chest strap that is better than the manufacturers?

I use a Suunto Ambit 2 as well as a Edge 810. I use the Garmin belt with both and it works perfectly. I have never tried to use the Suunto belt for the Garmin.

I have the very same problem. The 800 says "multiple HR monitors detected" Yes or no? Still cannot work it out.

Suunto uses ANT (Suunto proprietary). Garmin will not read the Suunto belt.

Garmin uses an ANT+, an industry standard.

Suunto will, however, read ANT+ from any manufacturer.

One of Suunto's stupidest ideas. Otherwise brilliant technology.

Note that the older T series do not read ANT+

A suggestion is to check if you have the latest version of the firmware.

Yip, update is three days old. Done by Garmin.

What he says.

Ambit was not ANT+ compatible on release. Check your Ambit firmware.

Go to your HR setting

Choose - Hear Rate Monitor > No

Switch unit off

Switch unit back on

HR Settings again

Choose - Heart Rate Monitor > Yes > Search (HR strap on chest)

That should pair it again and clear all previous errors
