Not sure if you looking for Road or MTB, but also try Hilltribe. They ride from Broadacres Saturdays and Sundays. Thursday they have a night ride leaving Valverde.

PM Cyclenut for details.

I hear you and I agree with you but would prefer a smaller club over a big club but lets see, maybe CL is the way to go

We might be biased, but we definitely think the Cycle Lab SuperCycling Club is the way to go ;). Plus there are huge things happening with the brand at the moment and it's a great time to get involved.

Also a member of Club100. Fees are R1000 for new members, which includes your membership fees and kit (shorts and jersey). With that you get vehicle support on the weekend rides (both Saturday and Sunday), a variety of events, longer rides and tours throughout the year and, from what I hear, a much more chilled and sociable attitude than CL ;)

Oh, and just swing down and join them for a ride before you become a member of the club. This Saturday 6:30 at Broadacres, Sunday at 6:30 at Luca's in Rivonia Crossing (for the road rides).

Not my exeriance at CL. In fact the coffee at Primi after the Saturday morning ride is a great way to meet other club members and is very chilled. But each to his own I guess!

There are a number of groups that go out, ranging from 30+ km/h to much slower (about 22km/h, but I am not too sure about the speed of the slower bunches).

Distance for groups doing more than 26km/h is about 65km, 55km for the slower groups. Sometimes the fast guys do an extra loop for mileage.

Coffee and breakfast at Mugg&Bean after is not to be forgotten.

Thanks for the info; and sorry for the hijack!

Busy moving to the Broadacres area and looking for a group/club to ride both road and mtb with. Will bring the roadbike up this time and hope to join in on Saturday.

I've just joined Club Bryton USN, they are based in Honeydew. Fee is R1,250.00 which includes Decca Bib shorts, shirt and R600.00 worth of USN supplements. You also get Access to the clubs online store. The guys at the shop are really friendly and helpful. There's a small test track outside their shop where they have lap races every Tuesday night, they also have group rides on the weekends. I did quite a bit of investigating in clubs and i'm pretty chuffed with the choice i've made. Kit looks awesome and the shorts are super comfy which is a plus. Check them out - http://www.bryton.co.za/q-a/3-dp1

and their membership isn't annual, it's lifetime membership from the start.

the Decca kit is as you say "super comfy"

Im looking at joining a cycling club in the fourways/northcliff area.

These are the options so far

Cycle lab is R1000 with a few benefits

Northcliff (no price on there website) and appears no benefits

Complete cyclist is R750 with a kit but no benefits.

Club 100 (no price on there website) and appears no benefits

Based on above cycle lab looks like the place to be. The only thing I don't like is the size of the club its HUGE

is there any other clubs I should look at? I don't mind paying but want a nice kit and benefits that's not a big club

Any help would be appreciated

Shot

Hi Michael #22

I manage the Fourways Cycle Lab club and would like to offer you unbiased advice :-)

The best way to find out which club is best for you is to give the ones you might want to be a member of, a test run! ( or two or three test runs) Thats the only way. Experience the clubs for what they are before making a decision. How do you buy a pair of Jeans before trying them on??? Buy a car without test driving??? :-)

OK, Now for info about our club in Fourways:

Our Rides leave from Fourways CL every Saturday and Sunday at 6am. As your first ride with us, i suggest you do the Saturday ride as it is a structured set up whereby we ask Guests and New Members/First Timers to come forward to be introduced to a marshal. This way we are able to ask a few questions allowing us to advise which of our groups to ride with according to your needs and fitness levels. (You may need to ride a slower longer ride, or a faster average distance, a faster longer ride, or a smaller group, Road or MTB etc etc.) The choice of group is crucial to your enjoyment, I am sure you will agree.

What are your needs from a club you are a member of?

Is it safely and security? - We have following vehicles. Club Marshals setting the pace and keeping an eye out together with the Motorbike (Think Bike) Marshals. 2 Support vehicles on the ride and Medi Bands linked to our database with all your info.

Is it smaller groups? We may be a big club, but we make sure to break the groups up into smaller rgoups, also from a safely point of view. There are small goups/cliques within the bigger club structure.

A particular average speed? We have groups that regulalry ride at an advertised average speed.

Is a club 'home' to socialise with people of like minds after rides important? if so our members gather in the CL shop after the rides and at coffee shops in DQ. 2 weeks from now we have our new coffee shop opening within the new CL Megastore.

Hospitality for you and your family at events? Major events like 94,7 and Argus hospitality is sublime (Goodie bag incl a T Shirt to change into, a cap) Mangwanani spa masseurs, Private toilet facilities (No queueing at public toilets) Nandos catering, a Soft drinks wine and malt bar, SHADE!, Bean Bags, a place for your family to wait for you (all included in your club fees). Smaller races we provide Gazeebo shade and chairs together with Ice Cold Coolies.

Ride Magazine subscription? this is included in your fees.

A National club set up? We have 13 clubs nationally offering club rides weekly.

To be kept up to speed on industry 'happenings', offerings, races, general cycling info? we send out a weekly newsletter.

Instore discounts? We offer these.

A friendly advisor/assistant club secreatry - we are here daily, weekly, annually to be of service.

and the list goes on.....:-)

Our fees work out to be 2014 R1100 for fees and your full set of kit, or R800 for fees and shirt which in essence is R360 subscription fees after the kit is paid for which is R30 a month. Not a bad dea,l i think you will agree. BUT the only way to find out which club will suit your needs is to Test Ride them. You are welcome to join us as a guest whenever you want.

If you would like more details on groups speeds, distances, etc etc pls drop me an email on clubpr@cyclelab.com and i will send you all the details.

Which ever club you end up joining.............SO long as you are HAVING FUN + STAYING HEALTHY, thats what matters. (Sounds corny, but is tree surely)

oh yes...

PS. We have a TOYOTA RAV 2.5 giveaway competition draw that all members are entered into if you join before 30 March 2014.
