I've got a Fox 32 F100 RLC shock (about 6 months old) that has been to the local bike shop and to Fox, three times, because it doesn't lock out. When it was new it had about 5mm (or less) travel when it was locked out, but now it has about 50 - 70mm of travel when I lock it out and stand and pedal on an uphill. The local (jhb) guy has told my LBS this is normal (it was also leaking oil), I don't think it is. Today I spoke to a the rep? from Omnico and actually he was quite rude (and to be honest I was rude right back) but told me to leave my bike a the LBS and he'll have 'another look' .

The question is how much should my fork 'bob' when I push down on it when it is in a locked position?

50-70mm is BS! I have a Talas 130mm and on lockout it barely moves.

Where is the blow-off threshold set? If it's on minimum there will be more movement. In fact, it will almost be like there's no lock-out.

However, if the threshold is set high it should hardly move at all. The 5mm you had in the beginning is about right.

Oooh....wait a minute!

You have an RLC. It doesn't have adjustable threshold....that's the RLT.

Ok....in that case it's simply not right.

Which Omnico Rep did you speak to? Have you spoken to Russel Palm at Omnico in Cape Town? He's the Fox product manager. Have dealt with him a couple times and he has been hugely helpful. He also seems to calm and soft spoken to be rude.

FOX make really good shocks.....but the local importer OMNICO and PTA/JHB rep really make things very difficult. Solution ....try ROCK SHOX.... at least they listen.

I had a completely different experience. They replaced my lowers for free after the coating started peeling. The fork was 9 months out of warrenty. They told me I would have to pay labour but when I picked up the fork they hadn't charged anything.

I dealt with Russel and he was very helpful. Perhaps just be sure to approach in a friendly manner and stay calm. That generally goes a long way.
