Am I right in the way I read the membership fees, in that you don't have to belong to a club to have membership of CSA, anymore?

That is correct. Need to be a Club Member if you want a Racing licence. (ie Vets etc)

I asked this same question a few months ago. Apparently you just need the CSA licence to participate in races, unless you are chasing the podium.

What now? So the Bonitas team riders, for example, have to be members of a silly club even though they are fully paid professionals, but a funrider like me can just get a license and go race? Seems arse about tit, doesn't it?

Not quite. You can participate, but you can't get podium even if you come first.

Nope, riders belonging to Teams registered with UCI and riders on CSA "Top Club" Teams can get a full CSA licence via the Team, as long as the Team is affiliated to CSA.

Not quite. You can participate, but you can't get podium even if you come first.

In theory, and extremely unlikely but you could podium at an event like Cape Epic and Jock Cycle tour as a fun rider.

Unless you're a much much better rider than most of us... what we do at fun rides ("races") does not count as "race".
