No it is self extracting.

you make sure the bigger nut of the two is a little tight and then you turn the smaller bolt anticlockwise and it will extract itself. it might be still but keep turning it and it will come loose.

The SRAM cranks are self extracting. You turn the inner bolt out with an 8mm (usually) allen key, this pushes against the big outer bolt and pulls the crank off.

 

If you have taken the big outer bolt off, then you need to put it back, preferably with some locktite.

I take it you came right. Don't worry we all have to start somewhere. At least you are trying. So many guys just drop their bikes off at the LBS. I enjoy working on my bikes. :thumbup:

Yip, the hub info explained it all, obvious if you know but it you have never seen a self extract before I don't think you get it first time round?
