See: http://sheldonbrown....o-z.html#bottom English: left cup - right thread; right cup - left thread.Italian: left cup - right thread; right cup - right thread. The English BB has a left thread on the right cup to prevent the right cup from unscrewing itself during use (same reason a left pedal has a left thread).
