Golf Course is on Morris Rd in Benoni, just around the corner from Northmead mall.

Great thanks Davey_Jones. Is there more than one route and do you know the distance?

Going to have to try it next weekend.

Do you know if my wife will be allowed to drink coffee at the club house while I ride?

Total distance is approximately 13km if you ride the full red route(our Garmin distances vary)

There are a few different routes(green, orange and red), but the whole route is rideable for most people

Yeah she can drink coffee at the bar on the deck or downstairs at the halfway stop (for golfers). The Deck has an awesome view of the 18th and she will actually be able to see you ridding around the top section if she keeps a look out.

Suggestions

As a regular user (run & cycle) of the trail, I'm most grateful to those who created and maintain this trail. Perhaps the following suggestions may be of interest to others.

Picnic area - With so many family groups enjoying the trails, how about clearing an area in the trees for cyclists to stop, relax and socialise.

Toilet & Tap - A sign at the +- 5 km mark to direct users to the toilet and tap that are only a couple of metres off the trail at this point.

I see a few mentions of families using the trail. Having not read through entire thread, I would like to know if an 8 year old whose never ridden trails before be able to ride this (and an idea of how difficult he would find it)?

Seen a few young kids riding the trails with dad. Definitely doable. Can easily walk any "tough" sections.

Azi we rode on Sun with my 7 yr old. We are by no means serious MTB's and I would highly recommend BCC. Its a great ride and you can walk/by pass the few technical sections.

Well done to the team that has set up the trail and as an old Benonian (use to play junior golf there many moons ago) its great to see the club and its facilities being well used.

Trail looking good. See they are building new sections.

They also had a special rate that included an energy drink this weekend.

ALeo please support them with the Thursday night rides.

ALL NEW EXTENDED TRAIL
After months of planning, clearing, digging and construction, we are pleased to announce the new extended MTB trail. The extended trail applies only to the RED route.

On Saturday the 28th November 2015, we will be opening part of the extended MTB trail. Most important, we will be switching the direction that the trail is ridden. The new route will travel in a clockwise direction.

The new route highlights are as follows.

New Trail Start
Entrance to the new trail start is the old trail exit. You enter the forest and then almost immediately exit into the grassy area between the 10th hole and the forest. After winding through the trees, you run down the jeep track between the cemetery and the forest before re-entering forest 1. A nice fast start to warm up the legs.

Forest 1 (Between the 10th and 11th holes and Van Rooyen Street)
The old in and out routes have been linked together to form a single route through forest 1. This gives the route more flow with some sections now straighter where you can really put the hammer down.

This new red route section is for the aspiring Greg Minnaar. This route is strictly for the experienced and technically adept cyclist. It will test both your fitness and your technical skills. The route has bridges, drop-offs, humps and rock gardens and will test your bike handling skills to the maximum. We encourage the cyclist aspiring to improve their technical abilities to try this route and simply walk the very technical areas whilst developing your skills on the less difficult sections. Do not be afraid of trying this new section, but we encourage care and caution. Don’t let your ego supersede your ability.

Forest 2 (Between the 11th, 12th, 13th and 17th holes)
The new red route section in this forest is no more technical or difficult than the existing red and yellow route. This extra section has been added to the red route to add some extra distance to the existing trail and make more use of the existing forest.

In time we will also be adding another technical section in the fallen trees along the 13th fairway. We will be building a number of bridges in this area to further add to the fun factor of our trails.

Forest 4 (Between 10th and 18th holes)
This section is currently under construction and we hope to open it for riding early in the new year. You will already see the screening that has been erected near the 18th tee.

Entrance to this section will be on the side of the 10th green. This section will contain a few drop-offs and will be highlighted by a number of low decks spanning the swampy areas. We are also constructing a viewing deck overlooking the dam and the 18th fairway where you can take a mid-ride rest, sit on the bench and take in the sights and sounds of nature, plus the odd birdie, elusive eagle and the extremely rare albatross.

New Trail Exit
The new exit to the trail will be all the way next to the fence along van Rooyen Street beginning at Lapping Street finishing at the entry/exit gate. This long straight finish to the route will give a final opportunity to stretch your legs on the long pull up van Rooyen. There is no forest single track included in the new exit route.

The total distance including all of the new areas will be around 16km.

I suck at guessing where the these trails start and end  I always blame everyone for going in the wrong direction! After the 10th person, I have a rethink...perhaps I'm the only clown going in the wrong direction.

Any chance of good signage indicating the new stuff and direction??

Posted

We are changing the directional signage on Friday. The entrance will be almost impossible to get wrong.

We have tried to keep the signage low key to avoid the trail looking like Time Square.

Please ride the trail (While avoiding oncoming traffic  ) and send feedback for suggested improvements.

Enjoy the new trail.

Safe and happy cycling.
