  1. I'm out of the country for a few weeks, will do when I'm back
  2. My experience with Wahoo... Bought a second hand Kickr4 which gave some issues. Contacted Wahoo for a repair (I was willing to pay) and was told that it isn't repairable. I pointed out that the Wahoo CEO acknowledged there was a design problem with the K4, and surely it could be repaired given this is an acknowledged design issue. The best Wahoo could do was offer was a trade in for a Core at R12,000 (basically retail price) or a K5 at R17,600 (slight discount), which I declined as given a choice, I'd move back to Tacx (I have a Climb as well which only works with Wahoo products). I then mentioned to WahooSA that there was a self repair option that Wahoo offered to their US customers and was told this is not available. I managed, without Wahoo's help, to find the contents of the repair kit and and got some parts made (except for one part, which I got a substitute for - though the original never needed replacement in my case). Repaired the K4 myself. When the belt of my Climb snapped Wahoo replaced the entire unit under warranty - had it been a few months older I'd have an expensive door stopper. Any semblence of support for Wahoo products out of warranty is, in reality, non-existant. They should clearly disclose that their products are not repairable at point of sale. This is in stark contrast to Tacx - when my previous Tacx trainer had an issue Tacx had replacement parts on hand.
  3. Had the same issue with a kicker 4, bought second hand. Emailed them when it made a noise and was told because it’s second hand they can’t do anything about it. Asked if I could buy the kit the CEO mentioned to DC Rainmaker when he acknowledged the K4 has design flaws and was told it’s not available. Managed to find the dimensions of the parts and sourced them independently. Then had an issue with a Wahoo Climb - the “cam belt” snapped. Was replaced under warranty, but told they can’t be repaired at all so have to be thrown away. I had made a complete transition to a Wahoo ecosystem from Tacx and look forward to going back. Had an 8 year old Tacx was repairable within a week with no issues.
  4. Hi, My Garmin 920xt battery life is shot. The device can be opened with a hex screwdriver. Would be interested in hearing from anyone that’s changed a Garmin battery themselves. Has anyone attempted a battery change, and if so, which battery did you buy (see below) and from where? Do Garmin sell the batteries and if so for how much? I’ve looked at YouTube videos and there are a few that have changed the battery, which is attached to the back casing. Can import the battery with the casing -cost is under USD15 but the shipping is USD99, if anyone interested in a group order to bring pricing down let me know. Takealot has 920xt batteries for about R400, but (1) the connection is different to the ones shown in the YouTube videos and the ones that come with the back cover, (2) they don’t include the back cover, and (3) a video by Triathlon Taren indicates that the battery that’s attached to the back cover is malleable and can’t be removed from the cover easily. Has anyone bought these batteries from Takealot and how easy was it to change?
  5. Thread hijack… anyone replaced a battery on a 920xt themselves? There are replacement batteries for sale on takealot, but on aliexpress the replacement battery is attached to the back cover (bought as one piece) and the battery connectors for the two appear to be different
  6. Hanging flat on the wall would be first prize. Can’t seem to find him. Do you have a name?
  7. There was a company in Europe that manufactured a towball that could be mounted directly to a wall for the purpose of storing bike racks, but they didnt ship to SA. Do you know where to get a wall mounted towball, or if you have pics of how to mount a towball meant for a vehicle to the wall would appreciate it.
  8. Availability of spare parts is a factor to consider. A few friends bought four-bike bike racks from boatssa.co.za. On two of the three racks the footer that holds the bike wheel to the racks has come loose and detached while the bikes were on the racks (on one rack multiple footers on a single trip). Tried getting hold of the BoatsSA on numerous occasions via telephone and website to buy new footers and never got a reply - very different to the good service prior to the sale.
  9. Got a 920XT, is a few years old. Battery doesn’t last more than 5 hours. What’s interesting is that I noticed the battery life decline substantially after a software upgrade. Not sure if this is built into upgrades, or is coincidental.
  10. Have a Thule 3 bike rack. As ChrisF said, the bikes load close to each other making it difficult to load bikes next to each other without them touching. Helps if you have dropper posts so handle bars of one bike doesn’t touch the saddles of others. And if you add a fourth, there’s even less space between bikes 3 and 4. In addition each arm attaches to a part of the rack closest to the vehicle, so you sometimes have to thread the arm through bike frames and attach to parts of the bike frame you wouldn’t expect to (esp true with mtbs) - I usually have load a medium, small and a kids mtb, or the medium and two smalls. I am considering selling the Thule for a rack that has more space between bikes.
  11. Anyone know if BCC is open to ride? Or when it will open?
  12. Report the fraud to your bank as well after you get the case number from the police. Banks also look out for these fraudulent companies and do block accounts.
  13. Been reading and viewing so many reviews, all very complimentary and so few criticisms. And this is the only modern vehicle I can think of that makes white steel wheels look cool - love it!
  14. Thoughts on the new Defender?

  16. How safe is it when adding the paraffin to the wax if doing this on a gas stove?
  17. Very sad. A really nice guy. Always did a solid job and went the extra mile. RIP
  18. Doesn't Apple offer a discount to students on presentation of confirmation that the person is a student (letter from school, student card, etc.)? I know they used to do this in South Africa - may be worth investigating

    2019 Amashova

Usually, this number of water points would be fine, and I would imagine for a slower ride 10 bottles of drink would be sufficient over 100km. I cycled down from Jhb with Amashova being the second shortest of the five days of riding. I definitely wasn't ill prepared, and Amashova was completed at a leisurely pace - over 4 hours. I don't usually stop at every water point at any race but I did on Sunday - because of the heat, I stopped to fill one bottle with ice and water that I used to throw over myself just to keep cool. Weather conditions were brutal, and the last 40km of Shova is not flat by any means - I do think that the organisers need to cater for the slower riders and have another water point between 4 and 5, or increase the distance between 2 and 3 and then compress the distance between 3 and 5.
  20. The solution may be to get a separate CC for online purchases, something like a Virgin CC (which doesn't have any fees attached) with a low credit limit. Can increase the limit when you need to spend more, and decrease it after you settled the CC. Not foolproof, but could educe risk

  22. My order was dispatched mid-November. Received invoice on Sunday 9 Dec, paid and sent pop to Skynet on Monday 10th. Spoke to the clerk on Monday as my workplace shuts tomorrow and was assured that the parcel would be delivered by Thursday. Received the same invoice again today. Took ages for Skynet to answer the phone, and I was asked to resubmit pop and call back tomorrow to find out if I can pick up tomorrow or have to defer delivery to next year. Not a pleasant experience.
