Can anyone advise if there is benefit to splitting up the 303 set and using a 404 rear with a 303 front wheel?

What's the pros and cons on this

You'll have a somewhat safer front in heavy crosswinds, especially of you're a relatively light rider.

And minimum weight saving.

Drawback: Aesthethics / not matching wheelset

+1 on handling aspects. It would show however you're a thinking man and the uninformed would stop and ask you why you did that. Get a good impressive explanantion ready. Problem is thou finding a pair in that configuration. Btw it will not work with a compact crank, lol.

What bout climbing benefits? Any?

I think the benefit would be minimal considering the 404 front weighs 715g ( without tyres, etc) and 303 is 685g. Why not just go for a full 303 set and get the best of both worlds. Better weight, better rolling mass.

Couple of grams weight difference won't make any difference. If you want to improve your climbing ride more hills. I personally would go for the 404. Make sure the 303 fits your frame as some frames have clearance issues at the chainstay

404 rear with 303 front is what was suggested to me. So what I'm seeing here is that I should rather keep it 303 together. Is that right?

How much do you weigh and where do you ride? If you are about 80kg, go 404 as they are more aero, if you live in CT, 303 on the front will be more stable on windy days

If money was'nt an issue, Lightweight Mielenstein. Who cares about crosswinds when you rolling with these babies.

I think with a 404 rear ...it will be stiffer...great for sprinting and the aero advantage ..less havoc on the front end wind wise ...especially here in the Cape at the mo....
