Strava vs Endomondo

I have used both, and I have a question.

On my usual 28-29km ride at northern farms, Endomondo gives me around 1600-1800 calories burnt, whereas strava said 650???

Which is right? Weight, age height etc the same in both.

I reckon the 650 cal is more accurate.Did a ride this morning using my polar.55km in 2hrs22min @ avg heart rate of 68% 1100 Cal and this afternoon a casual 30km ride in 1hr40min @ avg heart rate of 55% and only 315 cal burnt. All depends on time and work output.(intensity).Cheers and happy riding

I see there are also discrepancies, with regards to elevation. I export a GPX file from Endomondo, load it in Strava and there is a big difference in elevation gain. Hoogekraal measures 420m on Strava and 327m on Endomondo, from the same GPX file. Which one is more accurate?

Find a climb on the route map and calculate the elevation gain manually,

compare to the two apps and see which is closest.

This will give you your answer.

As for the start/end elevation being different i believe as previously said it is the barometer pressure that differs due to the temperature variance although i have only ever been out by a couple meters.

The GPX file is from Endomondo running on an iPhone 5. No barometer. I then load that same GPX file into Strava, and get a different total elevation gain.

Our riding group has adopted a very simple principle to solve these issues (Strava, Endomondo, Polar, Garmin, etc). We measure with all possible technology devices and choose the measurements from the various devices that fit our personal and egotistic objectives best, ie longest distance, fastest speed, most ascent. Simple.

On a more serious note, our Strava & Garmin data are almost identical.

Can't say I've tried Strava or Endomondo.. but I think I might give Endomondo a try. Have heard good things about it.

I started out on Endomondo, then for a time I used both, now I cant remember the last time I logged a ride on Endomondo.

It's easy to log your rides on both, so I would say try out both and see for yourself which one you'll like Strava is best.

I started with Endo, then went to Runtastic Mountain Bike app which I used for ages. Then tried Strava after hearing about the heat map section. That was about a month ago, been using it since and don't think I will go back to either of the previous. Also mainly due to creating private segments that I can check my learning progress on, how much better/worse I did this time compared to last and why i.e. riding different lines and setups.

Endomondo is nice. I used to track myself with the app, but now i got a Garmin Edge 200. I will upload my rides to Endomondo from my Garmin, not to Garmin Connect (don't have a profile yet and don't think I am getting one). I still need to use my Garmin, got it yesterday.

And the only reason I stay with Endomondo is, all my data is there.

From what I recall when I left Endo there is a way to export all data, not sure if you can import into the next one though.

If I can export all my data on one go, I will go to Strava. But at this time, I'll have to do it one ride at a time. I have 243 rides and I am not doing this manually.

May I add something to this discussion?

From what I see, both Strava and Endomondo are tracking activities applications.

It is not a health-monitor system like, for example, Polar or Garmin, which have their own heart-rate monitors.

So, why not just use Strava / Endomondo to track routes and activities (biking or jogging) and use Polar / Garmin for the calories and other data?
