Possibly would have also said "De Lange". From the first picture it also looks like the fork has a double crown, not very common on locally built bikes. Presuming the fork is original.

An interesting frame, cant say I have ever seen a seat lug like that before.

The fork is a double crown fork. Also very pretty. The frame is a track frame, so the clearance on the fork is very close. have to run a 21 width tire. Anything wider rubs.

Gee, is this a trip down memory lane.

In the eighties, between my friends and I, there used to be at least one bike of each of the brands above at any given time (after we graduated from the Western Flyers with the brake lever extensions along the crossbar, that is).

Read this, it's a great article, and includes a list of South African frame builders from the 60's to today:

Thanks nomoregravity. Great article. Perhaps i should track down each remaining builder and send them some pics and see what they say.

Ok so its a track frame, the brake calliper made it look like a road frame.

Double crown fork crowns were fairly common in the '60's. Cinelli being one of the more famous users of it (to my knowledge).

You said something about "Vince" being used as a brand/frame marking.

Vincini comes to mind, but they weren't locally made as far as I know. The lug work fits, but the seat clamp is still throwing me off.

Yeah, the hubber i bought it from had apparently bout it from the estate and mentioned a JHB based builder. Vincini could fit!! Where were they made and by who?

The frame had actually never been assembled prior to my receiving it. The fork is still in primer.

I slung it together with bits and pieces i had in my garage, and have used it on a few CM rides. But would now like to get stuck in restoring the frame, and doing a nice build.

Planning Campy high flange hubs, Campy seatpost, SR cranks, strange no name brand fluted stem. Selle Turbo saddle. Weimann rear caliper.

I would say before you do anything to the frame try and get to the bottom of what frame it is.

You don't want to be fitting brakes, etc to a bike that could be worth a something.

It certainly looks unique, not sure if it is rare or worth a huge amount, but do some research and find out more about it.

Take a look at the link, the lug work fits.

But Vincini was/is an Italian built bike, so that doesn't fit with what you have been told.

The lug work certainly fits, but i would suspect that any number of frame builders from then would have bought lugs from certain suppliers. The brake bridge and the seat clamping arrangement however is not the same.

Its really the seat clamping arrangement that i think sets this frame apart and i was hoping someone could shed some light based on that.

I agree about finding out the pedigree before going too far.

But, the frame as i got it has no visible markings, numbers or decals anywhere to positively identify it as anything.

I do like it though and thats what counts!!!

I took the bike for a 25km ride to Simonstown and back yesterday.

Windy and stormy. Fixed cog makes for a serious work out, but loads of fun.

This is what the complete bike looks like in its current state.
