Swapping a chainring for a smaller one on SRAM X0 2x10

I have a SRAM X0 2x10 on my Scott Spark Pro.

Is there any technical reason why I cant swap out the small blade for an even smaller one, and keep the big blade the same?

Currently upfront I have :Sram Carbon S-2210 GXP PF, Carbon crankarm, 38Ax24A T

The cassette is a Sram PG 1070, 11-36 T

Just in case its relevant:

Rear Derailleur Sram X.0 carbon long cage, 20 Speed Front Derailleur Sram X9, DM S3, dual pull

like a 22/38?

You can but the jump between a 22/38 setup will not be very smooth(too big a gap)

Rather go 22/36 if at all possible.

The best option of course is to break those legs in on the 24/38.

The only technical reason is that it starts to shift unreliably - the accepter rull is 14 tooth difference is the maximum that works - I have the same setup as you, and would consider trying a 22 small ring - but have not found one to try - let me know if you find one.

Anything shorter than a 24/36 and you'll probably fall over cos you're going too slowly...

Also look at your derailleur. If it is a mid cage rear derailleur, it can only accommodate a certain differential between the 2 blade sizes. Consult the SRAM website to obtain the relevant chart:

Front derailleur, depending on the mounting type could present a problem if you bring both blades down by 2 teeth. Just double check it all before you purchase.

Good luck
