Rear shock upgrade question.

Wondering if someone here can demystify the whole mounting hardware/bushings thing for me? I'm changing from a 2014 Fox CTD Evolution to a Rockshox Monarch+ and from reading around I'm not so sure its going to be a straight swap.

So, will the mounting hardware from my fox shock work with the monarch? Am I right in assuming that If the eyelet diameter and width of the eyelet (from side to side) are the same, then there would be no need for different hardware? or does it not work like that?

This is what the top of the existing shock looks like:

And this is the bottom, no bushing, the bolt that goes through the frame is the same diameter as the eyelet, then there is a spacer on either side.

Don't know if this demystifies anything, but I went from an older model Fox RP23 to a Monarch and the hardware was a straight swap.

That said, both shocks used the old fashioned DU bushes, not the new polymer ones that Fox now produce.

Sorry the short answer is no it won't fit. The Fox and rs have different bushing diameter's.

Your lbs should be and to order tmr correct ones for you if they don't have in sock.

Thanks for the info, On reading around I did stumble on a thread where they were discussing fox's new mounting hardware, I thought it might be a problem for me changing to RS....

Ah dam, not the news I wanted to hear, but thanks for the heads up.

Looks like I will have to take it in somewhere. Wonder where would be the best place? I would love to be able to get it sorted today!

Before you take it somewhere 1st just pop out the bushing from the Fox and see if it fits the RS. If it does bob's your uncle... Unless you already have ?

The new rear shock should be arriving later today, I'll see if I can make a plan when it arrives, but I wouldn't want to head home from work thinking I've got something thats going to work and then it doesn't :( ... hehe

sorry meant to add to check first, i have had experience in the past that doesn't allow for the bushings to be used but as patches says he has had luck so you may be lucky.

Yip, old mounting hardware did the trick. Popped in at stoke to meet the guys and they helped me out by pressing out the unneeded bushes from the new shock.

Had a quick test out in the street and all seems good. Can't wait to hit the trails tomorrow!
