So I just bought a new Scott Scale 910 recently, and I have not seen a thread like this (please correct me if i'm wrong).

So far my first upgrade will be the grips to a pair of ESI extra chunkies, what has/would yours be?

If one can afford it, build the bike piece by piece. Then you don't have to change anything. Pick each part carefully for the best combination of price/performance/weight/reliability and sexiness.

Well, the last bike I bought new I did that.

OK here goes:

Recently bought an Avalanche tandem to replace the old Fuji that the missus and I was using from time to time.

Parts taken from pimped Fuji:

Ritchey Stem

Ritchey 740mm Riser bar

Ergon GC1 grips

Fizik Arione seat (for me)

Selle Italia gel flow (for the missus)

Thompson seat post x 2

Bought new:

Esigrip chunky's for the missus

Conti 700 x 37c contact tyre x 2

Conti 29 slick tube x 4

Under consideration:

Take SRAM X0 Groupset from Fuji to Avalanche

Purchase lighter wheelset

Upgrade brakes to Formula T1's

Lets see how often we ride the bike first.

Nothing. Why not get it set up and kitted the way you want it at the bike shop if you're buying new?

I have always enjoyed upgrading my bike part by part over time, gives me something to do and research. Also each new part just gives me more motivation to go riding and enjoy the upgrade. Delayed gratification I suppose.

Yeah, last bike I bought new, I bought the frame, and it stayed wrapped up for nearly eight months while I bought all the bits, and then I only built it.

One before that, I changed a few bits on a complete bike, picked them out at the shop, and they swapped them out before I took delivery.
