Cascades - Shuttle days and noob DH days

Recommended Posts

Posted

A while back the guys organised some great DH shuttle/noob days for the regulars and guys interested in trying out DH.

There was a village bike etc.

When is this happening again?

Posted

when the guy who did the organising actually gets time outside of Provincial events, National events, and World Cup to organise one.

Also I had the buy in of GT who had some loan bikes ... this wont be the case as i no longer ride for them.

Also Cascades will be under construction for the next 2 months before World Cup - as well as hosting the next 2 provincials and SA Cup round ..

As Nige says, the next 2 races are there. Come down and race  .

KZN series #3 is 2 weekends away 02 March 2014

SA National #1 happens 14 - 16 March 2014

KZN Champs is 27 April 2014 (this is a long weekend).

So there is plenty opportunity to get that fancy new M9 of yours dirty.

KZN MTB will NEVER have the funds or resources to use the entire track for a regional event.

This would have to include proper shuttles to the top and 50 odd marshals. ... so no definately not the full track.

Track will be similar to what is shown in the attached pic

Start next to the pump house above A-frame ... down an old trail we used for provincials last year down a steep bank to the start of the 2009 4x ... right onto the 4x and through the big left hand berm - drop down the bank onto the existing Masters Worlds Track, over the hip and through the rocks - then over the step down joining the Masters Track with the Elite Worlds track. Then into a new section at Slip n Slide (where Sam Hill crashed) that will take us down to below Garys Bridge ... then across the road below the bridge and into the lower rock garden ... then sharp left onto the old 4x track and over the tables before the Money Maker ... then off to the left down the valley before the final hip jump

Proposed track shown in red - with shuttle access on the day shown in yellow

If you are wanting to shuttle privately you can go up English road - but on the day KZNMTB needs to abide by the Sports and Recreation Safety Act and need to keep off public roads so will be using the route shown in yellow

I will only be back on the bike in April. Doctors orders sadly.

Ill try for the KZN champs 27 April

Do what I do....dont listen to him/her.

They keep on telling me that too (this morning again) but I just feel I live only once! (Pretty short damn life this is too)

I just go slower, but still have fun rolling those hills ^_^

Cant wait for the 1st March!

I wish it was that simple. If it wasn't for the crippling pain 80% of the time I'd be riding every day...

Hi Nigel

How will the construction affect the routes? Me and two mates have been planning a riding holiday next month, 13-17th In Maritzburg and namely Cascades. We are all XC'ers though, no DH'ers. Can we still have buckloads of fun?

I can understand their concern with taking the truck on public roads (I'm more scared standing on the back of that thing than riding down the hill itself), but does that also apply to the double cabs where 4 riders are in the car, bikes on the back?
