Dunblane mtb race

What a bloody mudbath!!! How wrong can one be (see my comment earlier in the week). HTFU lasted for 35km, but those annoying loops at the end pissed me off and pushed us to 38km. Was nice enough and my 12yr old daughter finished, but I have a particular issue with "stupid" organisers who cannot adopt to the conditions. The loops were unnecessary and could be easily changed. They could also change the alignment to bring us back along the tar, cutting out the muddy mielie fields up to our second visit to the crappy water point. And finally, if the route was 35km last year and you add kms at the beginning inside the estate what do you expect to happen to total distance. Stupid move on a rainy, muddy and miserable day. I wonder if any of the organisers have ever been on a bicycle. Despite their best efforts the day was fun and will be remembered!!!

Bringing us back on the tar ...why? The route was only really bad for a few km before we got to the railway line. From then it was just the odd muddy patch. I'm glad we weren't sent back on the tar.

As for water points, I never stop at them, but I agree they should be nice so if more people stop the more places I'll gain.

"Stupid" organisers, I hope you were man enough to tell them to their faces!!

Yes, they have been on a bicycle .... rather quickly too!!

Sounds like it was quite reasonable. My morning went something like this -

I woke up this morning and it was raining and pouring

but after Sabie by drivetrain can't take another mauling

Dunblane sounded like a pain

so I got out of bed and did Groenkloof instead!

Better choice ! Bailed halfway .Still enjoyed the 38km on the SS .DID NOT NOTICE MY FORK GOT STUCK IN LOCKED POSITION UNTIL I WASHED MY BIKE .No wonder that grass irritated me so much

Some of the organizers have probably ridden more than you ever have and achieved a hell of a lot on a bicycle. It' s a mtb race but you want to ride on the tar....that's called a road race. And just because the conditions change the day before, should the entire planned route change ? That's the challenge of mountain biking, varying terrain and conditions. If you don't like the route or conditions, don't ride. That's like saying the Argus route should change if the weather's *** on the day !!!

Did the 38km race, mud finished front & back brake pads, so another service after Serengeti.

Will def take both these race off my calendar when raining.

Enjoyed the race, but geeze how crap is wet grass for about 8km of the race, with clay underneath ???

Skipped this one, i cycled to the start handed in my number and cycled back home. Waste of entry fee but far cheaper than replacing parts.

I thought it was a challenging race, but I kinda like challenges and enjoyed it even though I just missed a top 50 finish.

Mud also means mother earth absorbs falls with her gentle bosom rather than savagely ripping flesh from your bones ... and I'd rather replace brakepads than have roasties all over me!!

My skin, despite being old, is still waterproof!!!

I actually enjoyed that first round but had ,had enough of the mud for a second round and went back for coffee and a wash .Excellent route for Ss .Will do again despite this years bad weather.
