  1. Mid-morning ride out towards ORT. Decide to add 5km and head down Jet Park Road - south towards Kraft Rd next to the railway track. Recently tarred so nice ride. BMW, no plates (well I think temp plates) waves what looks like GPS. Two gents, Stop, park on passenger side. Guy shows me a SAPS badge (was what the driver waved out the window earlier). No they are looking for somebody selling drugs and stolen goods, did I see anything suspicious. Long story short, can I take their number. Not long before he is typing his details. OOK MAAR LEKKER STUPID, my phone is no longer in my care. Be careful. 😡
  2. If I look at the 3D route video it looks like the route changed direction from 2016. Is this true or am I smoking my socks.
  3. Here is an option to let Discovery know how we feel. Will likely make no difference and to be honest I have stopped playing Vitality's games, but it summarises the issue quite nicely. https://www.change.org/p/discovery-health-discovery-vitality-to-review-their-point-system
  4. Wessel, I assume the 26km is roughly the same as in 2013. Where do you add the 3km? In the Bloekombos by the horses or east towards the rubble like in 2012?? We all know that assumption is the mother of all ...-ups, but I need to prep my 13-yr daughter, before and during the ride!!!!
  5. Great night out!! Second Kia ride in the Winter months. Track was great and I was surprised by the amount of "Afrikaans" from my fellow riders. While I was collecting my number I heard that the 2015 Kia Series will only commence in February 2015?? Not sure why the will miss the best months, but will certainly be back!!
  6. To my knowledge its only online entries. But maybe Charnelle has a special trick!!
  7. This must rate as one of the best races on the calender. The 35km was really awesome, but the organisation and water tables impressed most!! The Dunblane clowns can learn a thing or two. Well stocked with cold product AND friendly. I will be back and I will spread the good news!!!! My better half was a bit broken last night, (thats wife not bike ), but she also loved it.
  8. Can we do a line entry?? The better half only commits the day before!!
  9. Racetec only required for road races. If you got it for the MTB, somebody tricked you!!
  10. Pity about the rain. The first 10km will be impossible following this downpour. Upside, I can spend Saturday fixing things around the house  Not a pleasant alternative.
  11. Was a bit wet through the "vlei" in 2013!!
  12. Guys and girls!! So many negative comments. Take the event in the spirit of a "holiday" event organise by a group of first-timers. CSA licensing is always an issue. We all knew sand would be an issue, thats why the "clever" riders picked the 30km. Afrikaans is the main tongue in this neck of the woods. Focus on the great day out and a good excuse to be on your MTB.
  13. OK ek was blind en stupid. Het kaarte gesien!!
  14. Skielik het daai besoek aan Struisbaai in Desember nog lekkerder geword. Is daar enige kml files beskikbaar? Laat weet as ek moet roete kaart moet help maak.
  15. First time back at at a Trailseeker event since Hazeldean 2012 and I must say the organisation was indeed awesome. Even the late start (only did the 20km) worked well.
  16. RIP Burry. You will be missed. So very sad.
  17. The Heidelberg Club shirts look very nice. Almost tempted me into becoming a Club member. Maybe the Heidelberg routes will do the trick.
  18. I had the pleasure of riding with my better half. Unfortunately I forgot to wear my "patience" hat. She was so slow I decided to take the low road and leave her behind. She still gave me her beer at the end, despite my bad manners. The route was deceptively difficult, but surprisingly enjoyable. I wonder if you can ride it on a normal weekend?
  19. Results were up on Saturday afternoon. http://www.racetime.co.za/rt/results.htm Awesome ride. Only did the 30km, which was challenging enough. Lots of fun and the three beers at the end made it al worthwhile.
  20. RaceTime. See www.racetime.co.za/ I assume we will be issued with temporary boards and will not be using our SAS or ROAG boards?
  21. I agree. I've stopped doing events in in Gauteng, because 2500 other riders kinda spoils the feel. Smaller events in KZN, especially if they are well organised (like this was), are well worth the extra effort. Add a Kid Zone to get "rid" of the liitle ankle biters and you have a winner.
  22. Spoke to Chris, the director at AOA and race organisor, the Royal Drakensberg Race will move to the first weekend in September 2013. Like in 2012 it will be a weekend affair, with a night ride and family ride on the Friday and Saturday. I will not be surprised if the longer distance goes to 55km. Incorporating the climb past Alpine Heath, Montusi Gorge, Acacia, Grotto and Trilby. AOA are also planning an official launch of the trails, early in December, 10-13 December if memory serves me correctly. Will have various rides, including the 55km monster and leisurely beginner rides, family rides etc. Will ask Chris to make official comment.
  23. Only single track. We did it from Hlalanathi via Trilby (apparently easier the other way) and only had about 400m of tar getting out of the Tugela Valley. The rest was singletrack. Lots of river crossings, lots of purpose-built bridges. The section where you might encounter Quads are the only wider sections.
  24. Was lucky enough to spend the first weekend of September in the Northern Berg and used the opportunity to cycle some of the MTB Trails in the area. Chris from All Out Adventures has done a fantastic job of putting together a number of trails catering for all levels of MTB junkies. Do yourself a favour and visit AOA when in the area. A day permit cost a mere R60 and you WILL find something to challenge you.
