I disagree about practice days. One of the nicest things about the enduros I've taken part in is that ALL the participants rode the course blind. I'm thinking of Giba especially. Okay Dave Drummond had helped set up the course but he did ride on the day with the good part of a six pack clattering around in his backpack. Making all riders hit the course blind means not only is everyone on a level peg but it also tests out a riders ability to anticipate, make a quick judgement and deal with the course as it comes.

While I agree and disagree with your post, I enjoy riding blind for the thrill factor. I also enjoy having a practice day as this gives me more time riding awesome trails.

When planning for events you have to look at the bigger picture, yes your top guys can ride blind and dominate but then you have the rest of the field to think about. We don't want guys trying enduro for the first time end themselves because they didn't know what they were getting themselves into and then not bothering with enduro again.

Then we have another angle, as much as we want to grow the sport and see new faces breaking into the enduro scene as well as taking their riding to the next level. We also want to keep the trails gnarly and testing for the more capable riders.

Just for interest sake, the guys that placed first and second in the men's category. They raced blind!

Edit: Sorry first and third place not first and second.

From my viewpoint, as this is still a virgin riding style around here, we need to build up the confidence and the numbers in riders. I am all for practice days and think it will increase the social aspect before the event which is also very important. all of those who road the course the weekend before really enjoyed the vibe even though it was pissing down with rain. Then on race day guys already knew new faces and it just contributes to the overall vibe on the day.

I also think a practice day before the event will encourage everyone to make an effort the day before in order to prepare their lines. the more riders on the course means more business for the trails and more riders getting together and vibing contributes to an overall better experience. the whole idea of Enduro is to introduce more challenging and fun riding as apposed to all the other heavy competitive and clinical riding out there where you are left un- thrilled. I say lets do what ever it takes to grow this style of riding as its super rewarding and only leaves long lasting smiles!

In summary pre- race day practice is essential!!! AMEN!

After checking with Nige and Kzn (DH & Enduro), herewith our proposed dates for a 4-RACE HAKAHANA ENDURO SERIES in 2015. All races are planned for Sundays to allow a full practice day (and stay-over) on the Saturday.

#1. 8th March

#2. 14th June

#3. 6th September

#4. 29th November (FINAL).

This dovetails with KZN and should help mix things up a bit..
