When I shift into the big ring and the small cog there is irritating noise when I peddle hard. Taken it to my LBS and they cannot fix the problem.

Any one with the same problem

You will have to try to isolate exactly where the noise is. Could be that under pressure the chainring is bending just enough for the chain to touch the FD but more likely that the chain is touching something at the back. Could be limit screw adjustment or the space between the cassette and frame too small.

Nope

Built 2 bikes last week and shifting is butter smooth and silent.

Take it to another shop

there is a 10mil gap, the front derailleur is very close to the chain when in the big ring

Well there you have it - chainring is flexing under power. Adjust the top limit screw to allow for enough separation, but not too far that it causes you chain to drop off the outside when going from small to big blade.

When in the large chainring and smallest sprocket, shimano recommends that there be a 0.5 - 1.0 mm gap (very small) between chain and front derailleur chain guide. It sounds like yours is set correctly.

For it to be flex, you'd have to be putting down serious power. Do you hear the sound when accelerating strongly only, or even when pedaling to keep your speed constant? Does the sound stop when you shift to the next rear sprocket (2nd smallest)? You need to go through a process of elimination.

Either way, I'd give serious consideration as to whether I'd want to stick with my current LBS, if they're unable to fix such an issue. :whistling:

The sound is only in the small sprocket and not in the 2nd. You might be correct I think its only when I accelerate will confirm when I go on the next ride.
