Hi Hubbers

I know this has probably been discussed a million times, but will appreciate any new (2014) feedback.

What supplement/brands can be used for pre and post training. I've seen there's a big variety on the shelves these days, but what works for you?

I ride an average of 4 rides a week. (2 x +3hours and 2 x 2hours)

Any feedback would be great, thanks.

Cheers

For training, I will eat before my ride (breakfast, decently sized bowl of future life) and if it was a nice hard ride( or I feel that it was at least) I have a 100% whey protein shake and maybe some magnesium (just cause it makes me feel good :D)

I use a brand called Nutritech, super cheap Whey. Im sure someone could tell me it's crap but it def works for me(placebo or not!)

For that length of time, I always just ride on water... Eat a while before so you don't feel it weighing you down, but get something inside you.

Recovery? Chocolate milk is unbeatable.

And I also always carry a gel in my tool pack just in case something goes wrong!

Pre training: I train about 2h after last meal (normally luch), so do not take anthing specific. But usually take 2 bananas before setting off and if it's a long ride take another 1-2 with me. Those things are nature's own energy bar, even has its own wrapper! Long acting fructose, longer chain carbs, protein and minerals (K + Mg) in those suckers!

Post training I don't normally take anything specific. But must point out that USN's Epic Pro is a absolute winner for post training and during rides longer than 3h if you want to go the supplement way.

Really can testify to its success in stage racing.

Thanks for the advice guys.

@roadrunner..I've used Nutritec's Whey Protein about a year ago, and must say myself, very impressed!

I've been looking around on theHub, and would like to try 32Gi Endure for during my rides.

Agreed that on 2hour rides you don't really need anything during the ride.

If it's gonna be 2.5 - 3 hours and you plan on doing a really intense ride maybe take a banana or 1 energy drink but generally just water will probably be better(leave the gels etc for racing). I have read that sticking to natural sugar sources(banana) during training is good.

I have heard about the whole Chocolate milk recovery drink thing, but I don't quite get it. Many people drink Steri Stumpies but these are low fat milk and contain a very small amount of protein. Explain?
