HEY HUBBERS ... Tongue

We are interested to hear from you as cross country riders ...... what would you make your ideal XC MTB?

I am not asking for brands....I wanna know what features on a bike will make it the best XC MTB bike?

Chuck your ideas here, lets hear your opinions and hopefully thrash out any different views on this thread?

Get as technical as you like!

Weight

Geometry

Bottle Mounts - Cable Routings?

Travel on a full sus XC racer???

Full suss doesn't justify racing. Hardtail is a lot stiffer. Kyk bietjie wat gebruik al ons top ryers...almal is op hardtails...nie een op full suss. Full suss is om comfy ride te he en om stage racing te doen.

Weight - Under 10kgs
Geometry - what ever is comfortable for you
Bottle Mounts - camelback

Cable Routings? - why does that make a difference? But all cables must run over the top tube. If it's muddy the cable, unless sealed, get clogged below the BB.
Travel on a full sus XC racer??? - If you have to, 80mm is enough
Materials - does not matter

All of this about R22 000 - R30 000 for a hardtail.

Thanks Dudes and Dudettes

Really?

1. Because Burry Stander uses his GT i-Drive pretty successfully.

2. Because I've won XC and Marathon races in PE on my old Raleigh RDS 9.0 (12kg)

3. Because my new 10kg Cannondale Scalpel does one hell of a nice job in XC races.

I rest my case Embarrassed

looking at R35k for top of the range XC bike.

camelpack on a XC bike????? eish

Yes because 2 bottles will weigh 1.5kgs and you still need your saddle bag with spares. Carry all of that on your back and the bike still is sub 10kgs.

AS light as possible +- 9.5kg Carbon frame

Tubeless wheels ie Mavic SLR or equiv

Light fork ie Manitou MRD with 80mm travel at 1.2kg and little flex

Definitely SRAM 0 grip shifters - all the best riders in the world will tell you that it is the fastest shifters for XC; You can go from 1 st gear to 9th gear is 1 sec and is less affected by mud

+- R30k

1. Because Burry Stander uses his GT i-Drive pretty successfully. That thing costs as much as a left testicle on the black market!

2. Because I've won XC and Marathon races in PE on my old Raleigh RDS 9.0 (12kg) You have talent that some of us does not have!LOLWink

3. Because my new 10kg Cannondale Scalpel does one hell of a nice job in XC races. Gonna cost you an arm and a leg!Ouch

Was wondering when this was gonna turn into a slagging contest.

Full sus, is the way to go. 100mm front and rear, if you're racing on one of those smooth sculpted courses then maybe (only maybe) you can ride a ht, other than that a decent full sus has been proven to be more effecient, they just climb better due to superior traction control.
