Velouria Posted September 7, 2006 Share I'll be there, solo - was hoping to do well, until I got that email from Dirtopia mentionaing how Gavin is using this as a practice for Worlds, and that Shaun Peschl is going to be there, and Russel Palm... Guess I am just going to have to go and beat my mates then... And you TitusTi? Team or Solo?

Francois Posted September 7, 2006 Share Hope to Finnish the League thingy quickly so i can make it to the start at of the 24hr Remember if you finish on the podium you have to stay for the prize-giving, but then we have pushed the prize-giving forward. It is now 15 to 30 minutes after the Masters finish - so nobody should have to stay too long. I was also planning to ride after Worcester, but I have to stay to be available for admin queries, problems etc. But I will get some training in somehow. Velouria Posted September 7, 2006 Share While we are at it - any tips for a first time solo rider?
Francois Posted September 7, 2006 Share While we are at it - any tips for a first time solo rider? Ride like sh&t from the gun and blow, go to the camp site and get drunk A little more seriously though, common sense, you got it, use it. The trick in these things is to ride as much as possible without worrying too much about speed. Get in a good few hours to start with remebering to drink and eat. Have a reasonable stop arounf supper time and then enjoy the evening and night riding. I would suggest ride until 10 or 11 in the evenin and hen get some sleep. Then stat again fairly earl in the mroning. Basically enjoy it, remember to eat and drink and have fun. That's my 2c worth
TitusTi Posted September 8, 2006 Share While we are at it - any tips for a first time solo rider? Umm, well lets put it this way, if anyone figures out how to train for 1 of these things let me know. I've got no clue! As to riding, ride within yourself, stretch alot on the bike. Especially your back and neck, you get bad cramps there. 1 very important thing to remember is don't use your brakes, I know it sounds daft but if you ride slightly slower and brake less in a race like this it means you're actually gonna go faster. Mathematicaly speaking if you brake 10 extra times a lap (a very conservative figure) you have to re-accelarete up to speed 10 times per lap. Now if you ride 40 laps you've just done 400 unnecesary accelerations. Trust me it makes a difference. See ya'll out there.
rock Posted September 8, 2006 Share I should really be good at 24hour races....I'm the expert in going slow..... I really regret now not riding this winter, cos if I was fitter I would be ken again for Malmesbury.....
Velouria Posted September 8, 2006 Share Thanks TitusTi - I remember you saying something like that after last year's Malmesbury. Is it possible to ride through the night, or do you stop for some sleep? And are your support crew going to be playing those cool tunes again this year? TitusTi Posted September 8, 2006 Share Up all night this time, no sleep for the wicked. Hopefully my support crew is gonna making as much noise as possible again. Bloody hell it's what they're there for.
