WPCA Winter racing

We will be commencing on the first weekend in June but here is a taster of what is happening in the greater Cape Town during June & July

 

1st June – Team Time Trial – Klipheuwel

8th June – Criterium TBC

14th,15th,16th – 3 days of Paarl de Ville (stage racing)

22nd June – Kermesse - Atlantis

29 June – Criterium – Paarden Eiland

6th July – Individual TT – Paarl de Ville

13th July – Road Race – Paarl de Ville

19th July – Road Race – Veldrift 100plus (Durbanville to Veldrift)

 

all events will be held under the rules and regulation of Cycling SA

the WPCA held a training/race day on 11 May at the Killarney Race Track focussing on youth development. here are some of the youngsters taking in advice from Steve Sergeant - Sports Director Hitec Product - one of the leading womens cycling teams in the world.

We handicapped the age groups , here are a mixture of u16/14's being chased by the u18's

Steve Sergeant was joined by Barry Austin , Herman Fouche and Chris Jennings of Team Bonitas to congratulate some of the winners.

they also did a few laps of the circuit with the youngsters

the next session is on Sunday 25 May and we hope to have an even larger attendance this time round. we will also be catering for these age categories in the winter series so these training sessions will be ideal for the youngsters to learn the craft of racing in safe conditions.

btw - we have an ambulance in attendance. :thumbup:

yes , the 25th is open to all riders irrespective of age. we don't time the racing as that would be an financial burden on the youngsters. we hire the facility until 12noon. no entry fee is charged.

 

wrt the wpca winter series - all but 2 of the event applications have been submitted and we have avoided the Paarl roads where there are roadworks which impacted on the proposed autumn series.

Is there a Category for the u/16 in the 3 day Stage race?

Also confirm the cost for the Open Cat...R700? (14, 15 & 16 June)

the first event in the WPCA Winter Series is this Sunday. after a bit of sweating around the venue (it has changed twice in the last week) here are the details:

 

WPCA Kermesse at Killarney - Sunday 8 June

Venue: Killarney Racing Track

 

Circuit: 3,6 km

 

Cost: R100 per person – R50 u/16 & younger

 

Start time: 8h00

 

Registration from: 7h00, registration closes 20min before your race (see category start times below)

 

Online Entries: Closes at 12h00 noon Friday 6 June 2014

 

Late Entries: R150 & R100 respectively

 

Race Distances:

 

1 hour plus 1 lap all categories

 

45min plus 1 lap U/16 (Start time 8H00)

 

30min plus 1 lap U/12 & U/10 (Start time 8H00)

 

Other information:

 

An about2time timing chip must be purchased in order to be placed.

This is the FIRST race of our winter series which consist of 5 races

There will be full road closure

A grace lap will apply if you require mechanical assistance.

A leaders jersey will be awarded to category leader. At the next event.

Prize money will be paid to our overall winners after the 5 events.

Coffee, tea, sandwiches will be available for sale

CAT1 Elites, U23, Juniors (Start 11H20)

CAT2 Sub-Vets, Vets, Open (Start 10h10)

CAT3 Clubs ,Masters, Open (Start 9H00)

* CAT3 is for club riders with PPA F seedings and lower and Masters
