I bailed at 37km with problematic tyre. No sealant (schoolboy error) and faulty valve on tube. If the rider that left 2x tyre levers with me is reading his please pm me I would like to return. Gettng RR off and on ArchEx isn't easy. Couldn't find you at the finish.

Didn't think the route was that great. Sections of mowed grass, tar road and hardly any ST. Considering the surrounds I'm sure one can do better.

Very poor attendance, wonder why?

  • Tar road is like a 2.0km... if that (less than 2013)
  • Mowed grass was last minute and not planned this happens with changes (sorry)
  • We had to swap the route around (due to us being forced to use the same parts as WC where we overlapped)
  • yes there was more single track last year because of this not enough time to add towards the end.
  • Single track started just before the 2nd waterpoint (35km) - you bailed out at 37km...
  • ROAG wants you to do the whole event as ROAG - we can't do that.
  • Numbers down because we had entry system problems to open them and so we had 19 days for entries only. (this was our fault)
  • Route will be improved for 2015 - without the overlap of the WC which will allow us to do more our own thing again.

KZN MTB lives through ROAG, that's just how it is here. Their entry and registration process is fantastic and they market the events very well. C'mon, go negotiate something with them. Its a pity so many people missed this great ride. Also note the Sani Transfrontier was held the same day. See you next year

I counted 5 events on the same day. - I had two clashes when our calendar was done.

I used ROAG till 2012, that year we got 50% entries from them and 50% from us. - We did the event last year alone and grew the numbers by 15%.

The fact that we had less numbers this year was not due to the fact of not using ROAG, we had very little marketing a done and the entries were only open for 19 days. (our fault).

It seems though that events are all shrinking in size in KZN even with ROAG this is what ppl in KZN tell me?

I think there is more choice in races than ever before, riders can pick & choose. In KZN we don't like spending our cash and look for value in the races. I'd say more people are entering races, there are just more available than ever before.

Hi Stretch,

There was ample of other course markings out there when we marked.

We used the following markers:

MTN Bunting Tape

Orange Day glo stickers

White / yellow / red "A" frame route boards

Chalk

What course markings did you see?

I'm unaware of any boards or markers out there. Those boards are like R75 each and we'll never knowingly leave them on route. Please let me know where you saw them, its unacceptable.

There are some of those boards in the single track on either side of the tar road near Grace College, rode there on Friday after work.
