I stated on a hard tail and am now riding the Anthem 2. Very happy with it.

HT does help with building your skills, but budget wise it might make more sense in going for the Anthem from the start.

Pump the rear shock a bit harder to get more of a hard tail response if you want... Smile

Don't overlook the Mongoose range. Excellent value for money. I'm very happy with my Meteore hardtail - it survives crash way better than me as well! Dead

on the budget side, he could save himself a sizeable chunk of cash (or credit) buying the talon, then after a year or two, look at buying secondhand full-sus bike. that's what i was thinking?

If you willing to spend the money, go for the Anthem 2..It's better than goin for a talon and then upgrading bits over time!!

Thanks everyone. Have seriously being considering this for a while - thank goodness for patient bike store folk (and those on the hub)! Does having a full susp mean that your skill quotient need not be as high when going offroad - i.e. the bike is more forgiving and makes you look good? I could always do with some of that Approve !!!

gparsons, you're gonna learn to use your body as suspension, and how to keep traction on climbs - something a full-sus setup allows you to do that much better.

Gparson, you get lazy with a full suspension. Instead of riding arounf opsticles or choosing a better line, you just go over everything.

You may get away with a bit more but at some or other time you probably will 'donner' off ...... as I said my 2000ZIM$ cents worth.
