Lack of track bikes in SA

First post so be gentle.

I may be wrong about this, but I have contacted almost every frikking bike shop in South Africa trying to find someone who stocks track bikes. No luck, so then I tried contacting the warehouses, wholesalers and manufacturers directly. The closest I came was Giant who discontinued the Omnium until late 2015...

I'm a little wary of importing. One guy in our club bought a Planet X (one of the safest bets in my opinion) and he is still waiting for it after six moths, if it ever gets here. Planet X told him they have no idea where the bike is.

Any ideas guys?? Starting to get on the desperate side almost.

(I know CWC has a Fondriest frame and FFWD wheels, but for that price I can just as well fly to London, pick up a full carbon Planet X, ride around the Manchester velodrome and come back.)

I got my planet x within 3 weeks of ordering, it is probably lost in the mail, your mate will have to follow it up, there should be an order tracking system, they send their stuff via dutch mail, which I find is very reliable and traceable. There just isn't any track bike available in SA, other than self import. It gets worse if you require for example an extra small frame, then you simply cannot get any bikes anywhere. Most bike shops will get you a bike on special order, but then again you might as well order directly from Planet X. Fuji is pretty good too, again order on-line. The sport is too niche for bike shops to import, the bikes and frames simply do not sell and it is all about turnover.

I am very comfortable with ordering from Planet X, happy with both bikes I sourced from them.

I'm sorted, got my Cervelo P3 Track, hanging in the garage, ready for racing next year..... You can contact the Fuji agents, they will bring one in for you, very nice frame. otherwise you really are on your own.

Track racing is the absolute best fun.

I can get you a LOOK AL 464 P? If you're interested, mail me.

We tried getting track bikes in but nobody was prepared to commit up front. No chance anyone is going to spend 100k on stock when people won't even commit to pre-orders.

How/where does one give track racing a go in jhb? I'd love to experience this form of cycling.
