Disappointed I took a tumble on the rocky descend when about 10 guys overtook me while I pick myself up.

Then got lost at 5-8km to go, organizers need to mark better, the arrows on the ground got washed away with rain & by riders cycling over it.

Not my best result but I will take it. Great fun. I cannot complain about anything. It was brilliant. Thanks to Geddan and his team. Really enjoyed it out there. Thanks to all and well done to all who finished.

I agree!

It was an awesome event & thanks to the organizers, just adding a bit of constructive criticism to make it an even better event for 2015. The town was a buzz!!! such a shame I couldn't stay to roam the markets & wine taste.

Great event. I did the 32km after Bastille day. Was a great event. There was one place where bad markings made me and few people around me trek up a hill with bikes on shoulders when the route actually just skirted around! Great event though... That singletrack above the dam is a beauty...Will be back again next year.

What do you mean after Bastille day? Bastille Day is officially tomorrow only, the 14th.

Yeah I just meant Saturday - "the Bastille day for the masses" - also a great day...

Been there, done that, got the T Shirt, won't be back for more.

Did not enjoy this race at all.

Picked up a piece of wire just after the first water crossing. Wrapped itself around my cassette, chain and rotor. Took some carefull manouvering to get it out, lost a fair bit of time there. Only found out when the climbs started that I could go into the 36 at the back, so effectively rode the whole race without the use of my granny gear (26 - 34 was all I had to use) No amount of fiddling could restore the use of my full range of gears. Lost time there also.

Muddy sections was not fun at all. By the time I got there it was properly churned up and full of walkers. Took a great deal of effort to pass them. Lost time there.

The section along the ridge of the mountain above the dam,was frustrating, had a "cyclist" infront of our small group that could not / would not ride over the "gravel humps / obstacles", and dismounted and walked each and every one of them. Also took a fair bit of time and work to get pass her. More time lost there.

The rocky section down the side of the mountain was so bad it actually vibrated the links of my watch loose, luckily it got trapped under the long sleeves I had on, otherwise I would have lost it. Also vibrated the screws on my Tool Bottle loose, had to stuff my tools in my back pocked to prevent them from getting lost.

Just washed the mud off my bike when I got home, will wash it properly this afternoon. Will only then be able to assess if any other damage was caused.

MY BIGGEST GRIPE THOUGH, IT WAS SO OVERCAST ONTOP OF THE MOUNTAIN, I COULD NOT ENJOY ANY POSSIBLE GREAT VIEWS THERE COULD HAVE BEEN. :whistling:  ;) :D

What you describe sounds like a mountain bike race to me.

True, just not what I enjoy.

Did you do the Darling Brew? Now that is the kind of race I enjoy. Nice climbs, lots of flowing singletrack, and no "bike breaking" sections.

Did not ride it this weekend, but feel your pain with the walkers.

I did. It was a splendid race.

If you want fun single track and nice climbs, also check out the Eselfontein race around November (if you haven't already). By far my favourite event of the year.

I don't understand some people!!! Why were you not in front of them since you seem to be a better rider than them? As for your gears well there were 4 of us who only had one gear 32X17. No problems there. Just try a bit harder. Not everyone is going to enjoy every race I get that. But try to look at the good side. We got to ride in a beautiful part of the WC. It was fun. :whistling:

Maybe because he had a breakdown and they passed him. Maybe the various routes crossed like in the Burger 42 60 and 75.

I am not the best or most experienced rider out there, hell I have only being doing this for 10 months, but when people block the uphills walking when I could ride them or no passing opportunity on the track above the dam, I walked with and chatted or slowed down and enjoyed where I was.

It is what it is, one cannot get upset about a situation that one cannot change.

In the end it was an awesome event that I had a blast at... Except for when a protea bush jumped outta nowhere and beat the crap outta me... :P :P
