i'm getting very fed up with peeps who look for reasons to bash our local talent. LA is not such great person if you read betweent he lines of a lot of stuff about him but hte yanks still support him. top sports people are like top racehorses - they can be testy and difficult but that is their perogative. if you had a quater of their talent then you can chirp about it. they aren't out to win friends - they are out to win races. as long as they do their best to do that then that is all that matters.

Well you supprted Rasmussen so you a pusher aswell or if you supported bascially 99.9% of the TDF peloton does that make you a pusher? (Note the .1% that never doped were the camera men)

Cycling in South Africa has so few real stand out athletes.

The two at the top are no doubt Robert and David. Say what you like but its the truth. Robert is By far the best sprinter but David will eat him for breakfast in a tour. These 2 are so far ahead of the others it is scary.

They are both at the top when it comes to cycling. Unfortunately they themselves together with other try and fuel the fires endlessly for no reason other than to boost their individual ego's.

David definately rubs people up the wrong way, but then again Hunter also has a 'shoot from the hip' attitude. What and how they say anything is besides the point, judge them on their cycling ability.

Lance Armpump was a total w**ker, but he was also a brilliant bike rider.

o ok, maar net nou die dag is daar gese SA het nie die fondse om enige sulke toetse te doen..very contradictary....

Amoryn, rather stick to the A bunch. They tested the riders everyday at the Giro. Its a UCI sanctioned event, its compulsory to have drug testing.

Is Hunter such a great sprinter though?  (Note: I didn't say he isn't - I'm just asking for opinions from fellow cyclists/cycling fans).

Did anyone see the coverage of stage 4 of the Giro (Helshoogte)?  Hunter tried to shake off Alex Rasmussen (Danish National Team) twice and each time Alex caught back up to Hunter like he was looking for parking!  And the second time Rasmussen dropped his chain.

Was fun to watch - does anyone know what the fuss was about between them?

BOB: Exactly my point

That's why I said it.Wink Some of the people here seem to have a very narrow and blinkered view.

Its also only when it suites them, as I said last year RH was asshole of note for pulling Zapp signs now its DG. I bet if Hanco Kachelhoffer got 2nd Overall he was also a doper, cheat or whatever or his team is sh*t and never supported him to win. No matter what happens this place actaully makes me sick in away. So many people lay fault and blame on others but do jacksh*t aboutit themsleves. True signs of people with low selfesteem unfortunately.

Chunky: Good point - apparently Rasmussen is a track rider after all.

Slowpoke:  Wasn't trying to detract anything from Hunter's great performances last year.  Was just surprised by the incidents that I mentioned above, that's all.  I think most people would have been.

So no one else saw the coverage?

heard christoff VH say that RH isn't that fast.....so maybe as chunky said..only after 200km he can and will like to be fast.

He has a team that boxes him in....so natuurlik sal hy altyd die sprints vat....

Not sure of the relevance of Hunter not being able to get away from Rasmussen has to do with sprinting ability?

Road sprinting is a very specific skill to stage finishes - especially after long stages.  Hunter used to be known as a man for the small group sprints, but not fast enough to get big wins out of big bunches, but his TDF results last year showed otherwise.  He was right up there.  Even his Argus win is a clear indication of how far ahead he is in sprinting in SA.  There was mass confusion and Hunter had to sprint around 300m (far too long in the wind), but still was a bike length clear.

Especially seeing it was an attack during the course of a breakaway? Uphill no less?
