mmm ok - but why?

I think this might be the case for IDT transmitting power but in your case....stumped. It should be the same

Watts = Watts afterall

I am just going to take a flyer here....

It might be due to you feeling you are working harder because you are not cooling down as efficiently as outside...so it might just be in your mind...your quarq doesnt lie, your mind might play tricks on you

Not to derail the thread......but some interesting reading regarding (cycling) power (......obviously over a cuppa......)

Personally I prefer the mechanical type of power training above the electronic type......using this equipment and just measuring the physiological variables:

i wonder if the friction between the tyre and the trainer isnt something to do with it. the giant idt has a screw where you can adjust the friction between the wheel and the trainer... maybe its losing power there

IMHO no 2 trainers can be the same,,,,,

think of a car DYNO not 2 give the same power ratings, too many variables, on my old fortius i make more power than my new one, on my ex riding coach power meter i made less than both mine at home :eek:

if you jump on a power meter all you can compare gains to is jumping on the same power meter, with the same tyre pressure, same calibration, same setting and i think it will stil be slightly different

mmmm but surely if the power hits your crank(where you measure it anyway) it doesnt matter...Watts on a flat road(friction on your IDT very loose) should be the same as on a hill(friction on your IDT very tight).

ahhhh ok, so you have a hub powermeter so indeed its the same powermeter device giving reading that doesn't give the same numbers ito exertion. I thought you comparing and IDT's power reading with your hub one. Mmmmm that throws a spanner in the works.

Powertap so same problem as he's got

Don't underestimate the psychological benefit of riding outside.

I like this....makes the most sense to me. Distraction in the form of wind in your hair, speeding tarmac and scenery goes along way ito exertion feeling like it does.

Untill the oke you are slipping farts and your power drops/spikes...
