How much tougher is Helderkruin / Cascades than the Hurlingham jumps ?

And how much more travel is 'needed' ?

Can do the Hurlingham line no problem on my 100mm dual sus, wondering if there are other DH/Enduro type places I could ride - or is it out of the question without more travel?

And if I were to get more travel, what is the minimum amout of travel for an all rounder that can do these tracks? (noticed someone using a 150mm 29er for world champs at cascades?)

Any downhill course is doable on any bike it's just the speed and obstacles you hit that may vary. I got to the end of the KZN provincial DH on the shortened Cascades course and realised I'd accidentally left my 140mm fork switched to 100mm the whole run. I wasn't very fast but I had an amazing time and that event plus the really friendly atmosphere including a great chat with Nigel Hicks convinced me to buy a DH bike. The people that you meet really make it a special sport.

Of the 4-5 lines spoken about at Helderkruin probably only one is open for riding because of the overgrown bushes. One doesnt need much travel at all. I did it on my 150mm comfortably. There is only one section on all the lines (the rock drop at the end) that one needs travel for as far as I know that place. I really can not say that I have learnt anything there. It is probably good if you want to work on your speed rather than skill set. (speed isnt important to me at this time at all).If you can do all 5-6 jumps on your 100mm then you will have no problem at Helderkruin I think.

Markus, the owner of YT rides all the German DH tracks (and others) with his Capra (that is 160mm for if you havent purved over this machine).

Mr. Christmas Tree rode Cloud 9 at PMB with a HT and only back brake.

Many of the okes hit the Scout Hall line with HT's too.

I guess asking other people if you need more travel to ride other tails (maybe also revered to as more advanced trails) isnt about what they seem fit for that trail but what you can handle.

What I have found is that the more travel have given me more confidence to ride things, that said I have done some of the same things on my AM bike afterwards too and felt comfy.

You will most probably be able to ride down the track at Cascades with your 100mm (accept for that new rock garden maybe), that said you will most probably skip most of the big feachers that track has to offer. I cant see that is will be comfortable landing some of those things with 100mm. That said....there isnt a bike with enough travel yet that has me hitting most of those things.

Hi All For those of you who don't follow Mountianbikers do it downhill. There is another Link on Face Book SA Champs 2014 @ Thaba Trails. So for you who want to come ride the "new track" can do so this Saturday 5th there will be some shuttles running in the afternoon and some time keeping. Then on the 12th there will be a Regional race as I understand and the following weekend from the 18th till 20th is SA Champs. Some of the changes are a new Rock garden at the top mid section has a big double (Some thing like Jugs big on in PMB) nice berm. Not to sure what has changed from Mid to the end. So come guys come and support the local race so we can get the numbers so Jozi can have a cool Downhill scene as well. Yes if you 40+ like me you can come race as well don't be a couch chop. See you all at the Track. Chow Sean
