milky4130 Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 So who all is doing this? Will be my first, so any tips & advice will be welcomed.
Skubarra Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 My biggest tip for a stronger rider like you, make sure you pitch early as there is no form of seeding and the first few kilometers are jeep track (and sandy as well) so you can get stuck behind the 100's of slower riders and by the time you hit the district roads the racing snakes will be long gone.

That's one thing I hate, being stuck behind someone.
Jaco-fiets Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Damn, thanks for the heads up there Skubara. That's one thing I hate, being stuck behind someone. Well if I am not stuck behind someone then chances are I probably took a wrong turn somewhere
milky4130 Posted July 1, 2014 Author Posted July 1, 2014 Well if I am not stuck behind someone then chances are I probably took a wrong turn somewherehaha true hey, found myself there many times already, then I wonder why nobody was following me.
Jaco-fiets Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Entered! Will be my 3rd. We are 21 people occupying a backpackers so it just screams lots of fun and copious amounts of red wine
milky4130 Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 Entered! Will be my 3rd. We are 21 people occupying a backpackers so it just screams lots of fun and copious amounts of red winewhats the route like, technical, rocky or just district road/jeep track?
Skubarra Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 whats the route like, technical, rocky or just district road/jeep track? one word - dirtroadie a little bit of single track & sand here and there just to make sure you don't bring your roadbike
Jaco-fiets Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 You begin with some sandy jeep track that onto gravel roads up the poort. There you do a rocky short loop and back onto gravel roads 60km/h+ through start and onto last bit of rollers back to town. Not technical at all. Race time totally depends on which direction wind blows. Last year we had some bad wind and most times were about 30min slower
milky4130 Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 one word - dirtroadie a little bit of single track & sand here and there just to make sure you don't bring your roadbike so similar to the 100miler then? Downhills are as smooth as butter?
Skubarra Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 so similar to the 100miler then? Downhills are as smooth as butter? Yes, in 2012 I did the 50 miler and 7Weekspoort, same distance but my time on the 7Weekspoort race was 25 minutes faster. (Jaco mentioned wind in 2013 so I guess it wouldnt always be the case) No big downhills but when you come back through the 7Weeks pass it's one loooong slight downhill which makes for nice & fast racing (that was the moment the penny dropped that I needed to upgrade to a 29er if I wanted to keep up...)
milky4130 Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 Cool!! so I can fit the rigid fork for this one like I did for 100miler this year.
milky4130 Posted August 11, 2014 Author Posted August 11, 2014 Is there anyone from Cape Town doing this event or considering it, who would like to car pool?Leave Friday afternoon & return on Saturday immediately after you crossed the line, freshened up, had a bite to eat, etc. ?
milky4130 Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 Just as well nobody responded to my request for travel share, as it's the Same day as the old lady's birthday so I'm withdrawing from this event.
