Sorry you had such a rotten day out :-(

Also got caught in the hash up with being sent in the wrong direction and would suggest to race organisers that the first stretch to Clara Anna Fontein be a neutral zone with a motorbike / car escort. Also think the value for money was bad and that by decreasing the entry fee would have vastly increased the size of the field. I didn't have a problem with the route markers but I probably had a few more people ahead of me to follow than you :whistling:

i wonder if DHS was just greedy & wanted a bigger piece of the pie or die they have to pay land owners to cross their farms, at race brief the announcer said we would cross a total of 20 farms today.

Hi Johny Bravo and B20.

Please take note that we at CWC has nothing to do whith the race entry or organizing at all. We are only the sponsor who has put in some money and prizes. This is the same for the water.

Thanks for putting the record straight! I would also like to thank you guys for the awesome prizes! You have an excelent team and deserve all the success that comes your way!

It is great to see a family business grow to such size and a reckoned name in the cycle industry.

PS. Next time I hope to also win something.

This was a Fund Raiser, to create opportunities for kids less fortunate than ourselves, and  for Baby Nicela ( Kfm project of Ryan O Connor ).

The MTB group that went off in the wrong way: All riders had a neutral zone car ( Subaru ) to escort them through the suburb. Riders were briefed. As they set off, a PPA marshal ( not our marshall ) on a motorbike  took off left, whereas the Subaru turned right ( correctly ). The front riders, even after being briefed, blindly followed the motorbike, and not the car. The car had to turn around, after he saw that nobody was following, and chased after them. The PPA marshall, realising his mistake, took them via another route, onto Clara Anna Fonteyn, where the race actually started ( neutral zone till this point, and again riders were brief via a PA system ).

As far as waterpoints are concerned: 5 Waterpoints on 54 km ( distance was actually 57 km, and had to be changed a day before due Wheat still on the land in certain parts ). Most riders should easily cover double that distance between waterpoints, with 2 bottle cages, but only rides with one bottle cage in Summer conditions. A distance and climbing of this nature, only has 3 waterpoints generally. The waterpoint, not having water, but just juice, was not run by the school or the parents, with only kids supporting and cheering riders. Stock was not fetched by responsible persons, the day before, including 8 x 20 liter plastic drums. We will follow this up with the company, and no point in bad mouthing and mentioning names on this forum. The other waterpoints were run by parents with no problems.

Medals: According to a survey on FullSuss, only 15 % of riders want a medal. Most end up being thrown away or end up in a drawer. According to the same survey, riders prefer something useful, like a bottle opener - keyring, tyre levers, ect.

Joel Stransky support all fund raisers and happen to fly down for commentating on Newlands. He was invited and agreed to ride. I want to put it on record that NOT A SINGLE CENT was spend on Joel Stransky and that Supersport picked up the bill. Nor was any money spend on Corne Krige for riding, and also no money spend on Ashleigh-Moolman Paso, who also rode.

There was unfortunately 1 serious medical emergency, to which 4 doctors responded to, and the rider was case vac out of a very difficult area, and is fortunately OK.

We will have a debrief meeting next week, and acknowledge the criticism and will learn from this.

It was very possible, (and most probably the case) to miss the announcements, as the PA system had a terrible connection, alternating sound between the front and rear speaker system.

IMO, Marshalls should've blocked the left exit, allowing default right exit from the start.

Im sure "that" car was a Toyota, lol

The PA System was that of PPA, and used at all events.  It is also the riders own responsibility to check out the route, and listen during the pre-race brief. Again, the unfortunate L turn occurred in the neutral zone on the way to the MTB race ( this has happened to me on a Epic Stage in Greyton as well, but riders acknowledge the mistake and went on )

You can not call it a neural zone TO THE RACE start. If the timing had already started.

There was no audible PPA briefing that we could hear. The picture on the website was NOT clear so NO way for the riders to know which route to take at start.

"The car" racing dangerously up next to riders hooting and shouting only meant that riders were more confused.

I tried to look at the route on the website, you can not see a thing once zoomed in.

Also I stared in C so PPA had finished their briefing by the time we got there. PPA called MA and MB and I could hear "something" like a briefing and then PPA said MC must also join. So when we got to the start the "briefing" must have been done.

Edit: autocorrect corrected:-( I hope.

Ahh Im SO glad I opted to do the 90km road instead of the MTB. It was tough in parts of the course, my legs were useless not sure if it was from the wind or from last week's race. It really felt harder than the One Tonner - I was tempted to shed a tear as I crossed the mats. Was yakking at registration and missed the start of the H group. Managed to crack 3 hours but came 11th lady home so now I am mad with myself. Memo: talk less (yes Copperhead if you are reading this I realise that was your instruction last night. shut it)

Anyone have any good excuses I could use to get out of attending two lunch functions with friends tmrw so I could go do Buffet Olives?

ps Brandon was that you I said hi to when i passed you at the start? pps: any of the MTB race people want a medal you're welcome to come scrounge around in my bin and have my bottle opener thingy (kudos for something different, alas i dont want that either). Also: wtf is with that HIDEOUS new KFM logo. Someone took a roll of gaffer tape and created it and passed it off as an expensive graphic design piece of work. Should be shot and have their Mac confiscated..

Thanks

I loved the ride, started in MB, the riders going the wrong was funny, It reminds me of that Darling Brew race we all did the same thing,

Great trail, cutting through those wheat fields was amazing, was it just me or was that a tough ride.

I was on the line & at no point was it said that, that vehicle was the lead out car, I sand to be corrected if someone else heard this.

Add this for next year, route description i.e. left into adderly, right into St Johns that's a proper route description, what you currently have on the website nobody knows that since majority is not from the area. To say it's our responsibility in this instance I'm going to disagree.

Another rant regarding results, I was heading for top 5 so knew exactly who all was infront of me, now results shows riders who at no point passed me finishing ahead of me, WTF!!!???
