Renting a bike in Spain

So, my missus has to go to Marbella on business early in August.

I thought I'd go with her and have a bit of a holiday

We're going to be away for a week and I've found a few companies who will rent me a carbon road bike for around Euro 30. http://www.marbellarentabike.com/bikes-prices/ I thought I'd take the opportunity to ride on one or two or three of the days she's working.

 

Has anyone done a bike rental in Europe? What advice do you have? I've been told to take pedals, shoes and helmet.

 

Has anyone ridden in this area? Any advice on routes? Is it safe to ride alone?

 

And, I see they rent Vespa's as well. That looks like fun...

Hi,

I have rented and riden many times in Spain. Never riden on Marbella, so can't comment on that.

Generally roads are excellent and motorists are very polite and safe. A real contrast to SA.

The norm is to take your own pedals and shoes. I would take your own helmet too...

They bikes are normally Carbon with 105 compacts and in good condition.

 

My only reservation for you is August is very hot, but if you don't mind that, then you won't regret it.

For men who want to ride motorbikes but don't like the wind on their vaginas...

Don't know what size you are, but from what I have found XL bikes are not easy to find. I had to squeeze onto a large mtb. Own pedals, shoes and helmet is a must.

Will be hot hot hot in August.

Lots of 'foreigners' on the roads (ie British and Germans) but if you don't mind that it will be fine.

Just remember to keep right! Surprising how easy it is to forget that and go the wrong way down a dual carriageway in the middle of the night . . .
