Still some months away but if you can, check out specials at 94.7 expo.

Nalini, Santini, MOA and even Giordana bibs are good value for money and super durable. The Ftech gear at ASG is also good value apparel.

If you are willing to fork out a few hundred extra rands, invest in at least one Castelli or Assos bib, especially for longer rides or races. Yah they are very pricey but they will literally last for years and one really notice the difference after 5 hours in the saddle...

Is Assos and Castelli lower end bibs really better than the middle to upper range of everything else?

Following this thread too. My ass also seems to only prefer Spez bibs. When they were out of stock recently I tried craft and after 30 km it felt like I was sitting on razor blades.

Those bibs were amazing comfort wise, pity they didn't last

I know they are expensive but the best bib I have used is the Assos entry level bib. I can ride for 5+ hours without any pain or irritation. Craft is good up to about 3 hours

Guess thats my question answered then. O'd rather be comfortable than save a few hundred bucks

To add on to what you are saying, I suspect it is also a matter of different bibs for different bums...I once borrowed a R2500 De Marchi bib from a friend for a long ride and after 20km I had to turn back because of the chafing and terribly uncomfy fit. Similarly, you will find lower priced bibs that just works for you and which will see you through many comfortable hours on the bike. Best to find the brand, and fit that works for you.

Assos are moer duur but they last. I have bibs that did duty in the Sabie mud last century and are still going strong. First ascent from the same time has been sent to the rag pile long ago. But I have to say that the First Ascent bibs from 6 years ago look nothing like the stuf they make now.

Yep, I have two 5 year old Assos bibs that did some heaavvyyy duty, and besides for the fact that they have now started to fade to a nice vintage grey :P they are still perfectly fine for riding.

Seems like you just had unbelievably bad luck with the Spez bibs - ridden with them for years and no such problem! Have assos as well which you just cant go wrong with!

Luckily mine have lasted. Trust the Spez bib so much after trying the crafts that i imported some Spez bibs. Most expensive bibs i have ever bought. Customs alone was R9000!

How would you compare Assos to Spez? I really need to find an alternative as stock is always an issue!

As long as it fits properly you can ride forever. Its not the chamois, its your backside that's the problem.

I disagree. Why can i ride in one pair of shorts one weekend and the next weekend i try another brand and i hurt like hell?

You sure the second pair fits properly? I never have that problem and I own a couple of pairs and ride far now and again.

They fit the same as all my Spez bibs. To be honest i do think that some of us just need to wear items that are cut differently etc. For example i couldn't wear Levi jeans. They simply didn't make them long enough. I have a feeling that there is something to do with the cut of the Spez bibs that makes them more comfortable for my anatomy.
